There are a lot of physics dropouts who go into finance. The math is pathetically easy for physicists and hard for liberal arts weenies. Physicists who make this switch generally but not always have better economic instincts and ability to disaggregate issues. They are just plain bright. (But they do need to get grounded first. Listening to the average Ph.D. who hasn't made this switch talk about business is like listening to Alec Baldwin talk about politics.)

Computer Science freshman, and I absolutely hate it. I'm considering political science.

Hi Orange...life is good, I guess yours isn't so hot 'cause of that beeeeatch, eh? Well, college is the best place to remedy that heartache, m'boy. Go get some on ya!
Actually, as I look at my business card, my official title is "Internet Sales Manager", which means I get all of my auto leads from our company website.
They started me out selling Mazdas and Hyundais in February, and I've become a bit of the golden boy, having sold 10 cars in my second month and am now stuck on 11.5 in my third. The average salesperson who's been doing this for a while gets out about 6 a month.
Due to that, they moved me to the Toyota dealership, where my margins are much bigger and my co-workers much more professional. My commission is 25% of the dealer's front end gross profit, along with 25% of the manufacturer's holdback. Here's what I've done this month, for those of you who might wonder what auto sales paychecks look like:
#1 Mazda Miata, Special Edition. Very rich gay man who is semi-retired dot.commer from Seattle with a boatload of stocks, etc.
My take: $708.50
#2 Hyundai Elantra GT. *****y ***** who has Jesus messages on her answering machine. $136.38
#3 Used Corolla. Guy was totally hooped (upside down/negative equity) in his trade. He was like 40 and his dad still co-signed...looooooooser. $20.75 take...ouch.
#4 1998 Saab 900. Sold it to my cousin. Could have made more. $499.75
#5 Toyota Tundra. Nice guy who didn't seem to care about cost too much...sold it for sticker...$750.50. Yowza!
#6 Mazda Protege. Nice little car...not a bad commission...$211.50. Easy sale.
#7 Poor couple getting into a new Corolla base model...negotiated my ass off...$116.75.
#8 New Hyundai Santa Fe. Nice lady with a full beard...made her daughter look cute...$379.75.
#8.5 Split deal on a Sedona mini van. $50. Ouch.
#9.5 Some guy who had me in a price war with three other net agents...tiny deal on a car (4Runner) that is usually pretty good margin-wise. $269.25.
#10.5 The whopper....the king daddy...nice little old lady who we turned onto a much nicer car than she was thinking of...factory demo with huge margin...my take...$1194.
#11.5 Some financial guru who knew everything about dealer cost...sold him a Mazda Millenia S. $159.
Pay this month: $4496.13 before taxes.
Not too bad...and the summer should be rocking....if nothing else, I'm saving up a downpayment on a house and getting something else when the economy improves.
Or moving to Australia...one of the two.
Tough way to make a living though.
