Well, I think the camping idea is good, because most North Americans can drive, and camping costs aren't too bad - only other costs would be food and beer.

As for Europeans, it's possible to find flights that aren't too bad...even though there are more of y'all, Europe is more expensive, especially in terms of hotels and such.

Camping isnīt particulary expensive in Europe either... I checked for flights to Vegas, but the cheapest I could find was 7.500 SEK I have to save money for like a year to get there, it just wonīt happen

And please, gentlemen, it's a world summit. If I wanted to live in a tent I'd go for some treehugger convention instead.

Treehugger chick may be ugly, but I still think chances to find interesting tentpartners are way huger than at a 'Poly Summit.

Now, in Vegas...

The very thought of getting some "action" in Greece boogles the mind, although there'd probably be a couple of gentlemen over in OT who'd be very interested indeed

No, seriously, Greece is a nice choise, but all us Europeans should try to have it in the states - that's simply a better vaction. Is there aynbody in Western Europe who hasen't been to Greece a lot of times, after all?

panag,

I do my humble best to promote national stereotypes whenever I can. After all, unless we keep that up, eventually we'll end up like the yankee boys - inventing phony lists of distinctive traits (witness the thread about Texans over in OT) just to cover up for the fact that they've turned an entire continent to a boring repetition of McD's, K-Marts and Interstate Highways with huge frickin' neon signs advertizing Coca-Cola.

Let's embrace our differences here in Europe at least, while we still got'em. Vive la difference!

As to the location in the States, why shouldn't we go for Vegas? The place was made for people to spend a couple of mindless days away pursuing cheap pleasures. Sound like a great fit for the Apolyton cross-section, doesn't it?

And as long as we manage to miss the Geekends - when they fly in the whole darn load of undersexed nerds out of Silicon Vally - there should be plenty of action to be had. Regardless of which sort of action that strikes your fancy.

Me, I'd settle for robbin' the living daylights out of GP at the poker table, mess around with a seniorita or two and see Vel demonstrate his new game. Bliss!

Hey!

As a person who has lived for long periods of time in California, Virginia, and Texas, I can attest that there are indeed major differences between region. No phony baloney lists here.

That's kinda like saying "all of Scandanavia is the same, they all drive volvos and saabs."

But unless you guys promote, organize and attend, there won't be any, of course. So how about it?

Got spare money?

as for U.S. choices I'll give some "real" ones. Not Boulder .

Vegas: it may be phony but if you plan correctly you can get good airline rates and hotel packages. It may take a little research and planning to get a good package set up.

New York: frankly this city scares me . getting around seems to be a pain. In the movies everyone takes cabs, but even in my city cabs are expensive. I can't imagine spending 30 or 40 dollars to get accross town. And my truck is probably too big for those city streets and it would probably be stolen.

Chicago: a great middle U.S. city. Has all the modern conveniences (except gambling and prostitutes ). No offense, I just can't figure out anything to do there. Maybe if we rented a huge boat we could do the summitt on the lake

Texas is another good choice. maybe San Antonio. We could piss on the alamo like Ozzy and all of Apolyton would be banned for 10 years . Dallas was too big for my tastes. I can't see what to do there. It's a business city. Houston has a few more tourist attractions I'm sure with the space center. but I still would go to San Antonio over any other texas city.

Florida: no one has mentioned them yet. They are more extreme in distance for us Western U.S.'ers. Although sometimes you can find some cheap flights to Orlando. I lived in Orlando for a little over a year while in boot camp for the Navy and in nuclear power school. Not a bad area. although the good strip clubs are in the Ft. Lauderdale area . we are doing the summit at a strip club aren't we?

But of course being from Vegas I have to vote vegas . There are outdoor activities to do here. It isn't just desert and casinos. Well it's mostly desert. Be we have alpine forest up at Mt. Charleston. And we have rock climbing, a lake, a river, and many miles of desolate desert to bury the more annoying apolyton trolls .

But either way this would be expensive for Europeans. Maybe we can have 2 separate summits and connect them via a video phone link over a computer

ahh how can I forget New Orleans. I have been there, bourbon street is nice. The city is a little scummy, but so is Apolyton . There should be plenty of hotels. Plenty of strip clubs to hold our summit in. They don't have legal prostitution though. We need to devirginate PH. they do have massage parlors though.

it's a unique city with its culture. Definately different from any other american city.

New Orleans would work great for me, naturally, but if you wanna go on Mardi Gras, good luck booking that many hotel rooms

I think the prerequisites for a meet (assuming in the US) are a good-sized city with good nightlife, plenty of reasonably priced hotels, and enough stuff to see/do during the day. The city should also at least be NEAR a major international airport, meaning places near Dallas, Denver, Chicago, DC, New York, and LA would be optimal - we don't want to have to catch multiple flights or arrange transportation outside of the main flight, if possible.

Of those cities, I think LA, New York, and DC are out, due to high cost of living. Of the remainder, I think Dallas and Chicago would be the best two options. Personally, I'd prefer Chicago, as I've never been before, and I'd also tend to think there is more to do/see there, but I'm open.

Does anyone agree/disagree with that rationale?
