And just to prove this DOES work I'll give you an example of it being used successfully. 2 years ago I played against ROC_Master1 in a game, he had a really good start and I was well behind, it was one of those games I should have lost. However, I knew he had a silk in his capital and I just kept sending out horsemen just south of the middle of the map. Finally I came upon some silk and it said I was near Rome. Now if I had finished the turn and gone onto the silk, I would have given away my position and he would have defended his capital. Instead I stopped my turn there outside the silk so the following turn I had just enough moves to move in and take his capital. I won the game because I knew he had silk in his city and I had a general idea of where he was.

Well you just disqualified yourself from any further discussion. If you can understand the importance of having a big city, with fresh supply and demand to trade with, you are just playing your same old, boring game and have yet to understand trade strategies. By building on another cont and trading caravans, you now have a new supply and demand that will pay great. You are obviously way too stupid to understand this, thus Ill waste no further time on this topic.
By the By, both of your strategies are nothing new, nothing orginal and nothing that one who builds many boards with map editor can tell by just looking at the resource seed that is in play.
Go thump your chest and think this helps you some how win, cause it dont.

I remember it saying in the manual that war affected it, but AFAIK it actually makes no difference (otherwise I'd just make sure I was 'officially' at war with my allies in team games to get the higher payoffs, which I don't do).
