I'm realistic about football. One result doesn't make a world cup. We haven't even qualified from the group yet! I'm hyper superstitious about England football matches and if I ever get my hopes up that we'll win I'm convinced we'll lose. And it matters way, way too much for me to take any kind of risk, I was screaming at teh commentators to shut up when they kept talking about a heroic victory before the end of the match.

And f*ck you about the liberal thing, who cares about politics, this is football, THIS is important. That's why we can't get carried away, we'll jinx ourselves!

Let's take it one game at a time!

I remember the giddy excitement of the english in the Rugby WC in 95 when they beat australia in the quarter final. Anyone would have thought they had just won the world cup!

I was living in London at the time. In the next game England were crushed by NZ, and I remember walking along High st Kensington afterwards and some woman saw I had a rugby jersey on and asked if england won. She looked so gutted when I told her they lost.
