I have this theory that England may be deliberately holding back their play as a strategy, only expending the energy needed to get through to the next round and lulling their future opponents into a false sense of security. What do any of you think of this idea? Is it possible? Could they really be genuinely playing with such deliberate dullness, cold and calculating, and without very much flair or creativity on purpose? Or is that simply the way they are right now?
They certainly played very conservatively against Argentina. Once they got that goal, they closed up play, didn't even dare venture much for a second goal. They don't appear to be taking any risks like most the other teams, showing themselves to be the most boring team in the cup. |
I would say that that is Eriksson work.
He was like that when training the Italian team: Lazio, very calculating, cold etc.. etc.., If they became very defesive after tha goal, is just something he learned over here.... I guess.
