The thing is, crime in the UK is concentrated in certain area's .. there are still area's where people go out and leave the door unlocked (as in Scotland/Wales and rural England) ...
Crime is bad in certain area's for many reasons .. The increasing difference between rich and poor is one, the current education system which forces people to goto bad/failing schools because of your locality.. meaning rich kids goto school with rich kids, and poor with poor. The lack of semi-skilled jobs .. there are plenty of low/no skilled jobs, but very few which force those caught in the poverty trap to want to do anything about it.
Population size is also a factor, nearly 8 million people live within 30sq miles of London !!! some of these people have difficulties due to inability to speak English (due to immigration).
Most of all, you have to look at how crime rate is recorded..
Does the UK have the highest crime rate because it has the best police + detection ???? maybe/maybe not .. but it is imposible to compare like with like, when undetected crime simple is not known about.
Finally, as a person who actually loves Greece very much, I will have to say that your country just isn't in the same league as the UK, economically & politically .. however, you have a wonderful pace of life, make lovely food, and your woman win hands down .. (personal taste of course) ..

serious mode for JUST a little bit.
the crime rate has been recorded as the number of (qualified as) attacks (common qualification) against 100.000 civilians. the UK has the highest number of attacks Greece has the lowest.
economically and politically are very abstract terms...
By talking only about the pace of life, the beauty of greek women (something that is as nephelic as the economic and political terms - beautiful women exist all over the world IMO) and the greek cuisine I think you are underestimating Greece.
About immigration Greece has one of the highest % in the EU but no racial incidents compared to the UK or some other countries of the EU.
I also not only like but also look to the UK as example for several matters. But I have to say that these matters become less and less compared to other countries these last years .
for example our medical system is better than yours despite you having a better GDP. Crime is lower... our mass transportation is far safer and cheaper...one by one the things I looked at britain as "teaching" to us are either eclisped or are better done by ther european countries.
but i dont think anyone around here will forget Lord Byron ever (well those who study some of course )

The pot calling the kettle black...
Piaktis, your true colours have really been coming to the fore lately - you're becoming more and more unhinged as the weeks go by...
I also happen to think it's bad taste that you gleefully rub our faces in the fact that we have had yet another fatal rail crash...
What kind of pathetic twisted little sh*t are you that you can happily gloat about that kind of thing...???
To think that I once took you seriously (I know guys, more fool me! ), and agreed with much that you said, even if I thought some things you said were a little extreme...
Good knows where your seeming hatred of the British stems from - I mean the Elgin Marbles are only bits of rock for christ's sake...
And yes we're in the World Cup because we beat you home and away in the qualifiers... In fact we're directly responsible for you guys staying at home.
Maybe an ex of yours was stolen by a British holidaymaker with more Drachmas (sorry Euros!) in his back pocket than you're likely to see in a year!
Maybe that's it, all these British tourists walking round like they own the place, cos let's face it without our money you tinpot plate throwers would still be on their hands and knees harvesting olives with their bare hands and ****ging goats in the mountains...
If you don't want us, fine - we only go there because it's cheap anyway...
I had a couple of holidays in Greece, very enjoyable too because I could live like a king with all the locals scurrying about chasing my fat wads of Drachma.
But I'll tell you this, you are a total hypocrite to laugh at our transport because Athens airport (unless they bombed the place and started again since I was there!!!) would be a total joke if it wasn't such a hellhole! Then there's the traffic! Yikes! I hate to think how many people get killed on your roads!!!
Also the pollution is a total nightmare - isn't it the most polluted capital city in Europe??? No wonder there's no crime - everyone is on respirators suffering from emphysema!
You scream at us to return the Marbles and yet the Acropolis is crumbling before your eyes from the sh*t your dirty, smelly, ugly city spews forth hour after hour!
As for crime - there was plenty when I was there, I remember being in a square and suddenly two gangs came running in having at each other with sticks and chains!
But then, that's the point about these crime stats - just how much crime isn't even reported in Greece (they're barely literate in the countryside aren't they?).
I mean, when the police still have no leads whatsoever after decades on this November thingy terrorist group, they're hardly likely to bother reporting that Zorba next door stole their olives and drank their Metaxa when they weren't looking...
Yes I admit our transport is f*cked (thanks for reminding me again!), it has been since the bastard scum Tories got their hands on it - it's still f*cked now that Tony the Uber Tory has had it since!
But, crimewise I have always lived in fairly dodgy areas (Tower Hamlets, Haringey & Lewisham) and I have never been the victim of a crime or seen one happen!
Oh, there was a fight I was in, in a pub once - which actually would count in the UK if the Police were involved.
One of my friends has been mugged, but he was also mugged in Agios Nikolaos...
Guess he just has 'victim' on his forehead...
My next door neighbour's son was bullied by kids from another school at a train station if that counts?
Face it - anything short of murder probably doesn't count in Greece...
You're only in the EU because it's our local beach and we felt sorry for you...
I mean, you took the trouble to learn our language but we couldn't give two farts about yours - what a waste of time!
If we want a beer in Greece we say: "I want a beer" - in English! All your menus are in English too! You are our servants, now have the good decency to know your place and shut up...
Hey, Piaktis! I want a beer - hurry up boy!

How come no-one is complaining about anti-UKism like anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism, then?
