Oooh my head… Full PM-box? Change here!

1754 Lesson #1 to my esteemed predecessor: You have to rush the Sewer
–––– before the food box gets full. Growth is determined in cities
–––– first, then production. Lutefisk changed to Exchange, rushed.
–––– 4000+ gold nearly everything that can be rushed to the last row is
–––– so rushed. Especially everything that is doing Pikemen, which Leo
–––– will change to Musketeers before they are completed.

1756 Spanish Archers east of Salamanca; Crucs salley forth, pleas from
–––– Philip rejected, Archers die. Pamplona falls 49g plundered. Cadiz
–––– discovered and bombarded. Revenna captured 47g.
1758 Granada revealed. Kabul captured; a few gold looted. Crucs search
–––– south and west of Ravenna for other cities.

1760 Antium looted for 43g; Sticky Mouse Library
1762 Ormuz 23g; Mkts in Ravenna, Antium sold
1764 Tabriz 30g, Aleppo 24g; main Mongol continent secure. Cadiz 64g

1766 Granada 74g, only unlocated city Avila remains to Philip; Veii 47g
–––– H02 renamed Trondheim, H03 = Aachoo, H04 = Hoopla, H05 = Hiccup,
–––– B01 renamed Boring (for admin purposes & 'cause they're boring)

1768 Caesar demands Industrialization , assault Cumae and Pompeii
–––– ships begin search for Avila north and east of conquered Spain;
–––– The Institute & Kundavik Libraries;

1770 Nobel discovers TNT and establishes the Nobel War Prize for most
–––– imaginative use of explosives to kill, maim, and destroy. Straybow
–––– the Preoccupied suddenly realizes that Vikings have Railroad and
–––– immediately switches many more cities to Engineer production
–––– Cloth to Lutefisk for an astounding 15g (demand disappeared)
–––– Boring Dye to Bokhara 27g, Cape Whale Gold to Samarkand 32g
–––– Pompeii plundered for 42g, Mkt looted for 40 more Cumae 18+40
–––– sold Mkts in various cities (nobody cares about celebrating)
–––– Hut 50 (island across from Kashgar)

Zulus given Industrialization somewhere in there (vain attempt to
improve relations for trade purposes)

1772 Roman Settlers, Catapult die; Lutefisk Sewer rushed; Grand Canal
–––– Library; Universities are being tickled in various cities
–––– Straybow the Doofus remembers we Vikings have Adam Smith's so
–––– those Markets weren't costing us anything… D'oh! @self

now reserving quarters in Sticky Mouse

1774 Viking law recognizes the limited liability Corporation. Leo's
–––– Magic Wand turns camels into 2½ tonne trucks; Commies next
–––– Cremona Wine to Zimbabwe 197g; Basra falls 24g; Nish Aqduct rushed
1776 Barb 150 x 2; Toronto Silk 54g, Shiguld Spice 44g; discover
–––– Avila on small continent to the East; hut 50 on same continent;
–––– Lutefisk size 13; try following Zulu Caravel to Intombe & Mpondo

Straybison founded somewhere in there

1778 Zulus develop Wheel! French develop Iron Working! Straybow
–––– almost resigns, but stays in hope the Vikings may still prevail.
–––– Lutefisk Harbor. Hut = Lost city of Atlantis; hut 50 S of Rome;
–––– Aachoo gems to Nishapur 42g
1780 Barbarian ship nears Edge of Mankind; Musketeers rushed, defenders
–––– shifted to reinforce EoM and split the attackers, fingers crossed;
–––– Avila stomped into dust; Philip captured and sent to Sticky Mouse
–––– Prepare for diminished contentedness from Cathedrals (Mike's)

1782 Only 1 city in disorder due to Communism Espionage next
–––– Splitting the attackers strategy worked Many cities set
–––– to produce 2nd Musket for garrison (noobie mistake!) Northern
–––– branch of Rome encountered; Barcelona Copper to Lugdunum 160g
–––– Neapolis bribed 512, 42g + Metallurgy gained; Roman Cat killed;
–––– Lutefisk Factory rushed & Freight drive begun for Darwin/UN
1784 Freight drive continued; many Freight sent towards Rome/England

Mixed results Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

*Groan* You gotta play 15 turns or the effort of relearning the what & where of everything isn't worthwhile. Spending a gargantuan sum of money our power has been increased manyfold. Yet, only 13 cities were taken from our enemies. The hunt for Avila delayed destruction of the Mongol remnant, left for my successor to finish.

Viking workers have been augmented from 7 Settlers to 43 Engineers. Several guesses at hidden specials were rewarded and Rails are being built. Julius neglected rail entirely and has been hard at work polishing the library floors in The Institute. (I'm sure the library at Sticky Mouse awaits my own labors for my neglect.) Universities have been built or started in home cities with trade growth potential.

Our army has grown from an impressive 32 Crucs + 5 Knights to a fearsome 68 Dragoons. Our navy likewise has nearly doubled from 11 Ironclads to 23, and a few Transports and Frigates have been added to our sizeable fleet. More are needed since time won't permit return trips from our distant prey to bring a second wave. 33 Freight are in production for revenue and wonder building.

I believe our trade revenues have been stunted because everything in the southern half of the map are continent #63. We're not getting overseas x2 bonus for trade with Mongol home continent. That means Zulu and France are unsuitable for trade routes from home territories. The big Roman continent is #57, so it must extend northward. Our subarctic colonies (#1), Cremona and Edge of Mankind (#59), and Spain (#36) are distinct for trade purposes.

Put an end to popups!

Mathematics well, the sentence originally included 'clads and shipping fleet. The proofreader (Mr. Oddarcher) didn't catch all the changes and shall be sent to The Institute.

Distance from Lutefisk to London is 107 tiles, not counting the diversion around a large continent foreseen by the Seers of Blackclick. That's farther than a Magellan-enhanced Transport can move in 15 turns (105 tiles). The few ships with a head start are only 4 turns closer, which doesn't leave much time for conquering.

SG[1] shall be lucky just to reach England. Roman and Zulu homelands are dead meat.

BTW SG[1], while the Galleon/Transport (& complement) were waiting for the 'Clad & Frigate to catch up I followed a Caravel Westward for a while. The Seers of Blackclick predicted nearest landfall in that direction was too far to chase. I suspect chasing down the last two Zulu cities shall be another player's problem.

I'd toss some Engrs in the ships and start a few cities in choice spots along the way to England. Units can be rushed and put into action from a better strategic position, not to mention the trade benefits. Might get an Adv Tribe or two from coastal huts.

(PS: I was keeping the Frigate for local use by our subarctic colonies. I was about to ship the Engr over to rehome at Salamis and back. Antlergrad needs the food and the work to grow enough to make use of two specials.)

It is always fun spending money, and there was a hellacious amount to throw frivolously at the army. Might've gotten a bit carried away; could've shifted more of that into transport fleet.

This is my last day in the office before a lengthy hiatus. I will not be online between 04 July and 21 July.

Looking at my 2do list prior to departure, there's simply no way I'll have time to play (even should the Marquis be posting as I write this). If I get time to do anything, it will have to be some Civ2 Democracy history I've committed to.

So that should mean that Vlad is next.

I look forward to reading the annals of our glorious victory upon my return. Have fun!

Straybow, you sell all marketplaces and you'd want me to go to Sticky Mouse because I didn't rushbuild some stuff ???
I never sold any marketplaces in my whole life, except when I wanted to disband the city next turn !

As for general politics, I wanted to keep the money for bribing cities. And as our power and our science looked adequate to win, I only concentrated on producing a fleet and many units, the units you used to conquer your 13 cities.

Lord - I have had enough - please enjoy this game - note to my successor - before you look at the 60% luxury rate and slap it down - please consider the effect of all the celebrating cities - basically we are earning fractionally more trade arrows (to be applied to cash and science) than we would do if we took the luxuries off - IMO any reduction below 40% would be catastrophic... but play your own game.

Self Assessment before the Politburo

Further notes:
There are established ferries between our three core isands and ships tasked to the Arctic and Eastern Dependancy runs.
IMO Lutefisk can stand being grown to ~24 which will give some very useful Eins (or meanies) - I ensured that one of the cities with an existing food route to Lutefisk had a caravan rushed so that growth could occur each year - you might wish to continue this tradition.
Questions will be asked by the Politburo as to why I concentrated upon domestic trade to the capital (all caravans above are to Lutefisk unless explicitly stated otherwise) rather than seeking more lucrative desired commodity routes. My response (which might earn me a long spell at The Institute - an inspired city name! kudos to the founder) is that my experience suggests that routes with giant trade cities are much better in terms of the ongoing arrow benefit. A desired commodity can gain an outstanding bonus - but lead to a poor long term return. As my aim was to establish a network of celebrating cities, I took the former route (Further aside: key thing to note is network of celebrating cities - a city starts celebrating and earns more arrows which increases the value of all trade routes connected to it which causes other cities to celebrate which earn more arrows ... - this explains why a city will spontaneously start to celebrate in a game like the above as the trade route benefit filters down to it)
Seville has the Colossus - it might be fun to build up this city too (to ~20) and then send all home continent trade to Seville - (Xin's two continent trading strategy) - as it stands an undemanded commodity between Lutefisk and Seville gets 100g (and 100 beakers) - I plead guilty to the lords of the Politburo for not utilising this resource to its best.

I did my best - may my sentance be short - I don't think this game will see another round so good luck all and thanks.

1802 - Comrade Marqnud is appointed chairman by the council. He spends his days and nights in meetings with various bureaucrats, who explain to him the state of affairs in the vast empire. Marqnud grows very confused by all the comings and goings of transports, engineers, and such. What city where? Huh? Why? It proves overwhelming. Marqnud orders the renaming of East Lutefisk to West Lutefisk, as official geographers noticed that the city actually lies just west of the capitol. He then travels to The Institute, orders a soft room be prepared, and checks himself in.

1803 - The council appoints Emdee Ess as the new chairman. Ess is a seasoned cutter of red tape, and remains undaunted by the task at hand. He notes that many of our cities have an even number of citizens, and exactly half wear light blue, the color worn by those feeling jolly. Growth will bring an end to their happiness, the chairman fears... He risks a drop in the luxury rate... Scientists report the discover of a strong new alloy called steel. They claim we can build better killing machines with this material.

1804 - Our destroyers continue to seek the cowardly Zulu. Cavalry comb the many islands we encounter, in search of new victims. A heap of freights are delivered for ~800 gold.

1806 - Scientists complete a Theory of Gravity. People everywhere are impressed. The English and Zulu sign a pact to contain our aggression.

1808 - Our population breaks 20 million! Irrigation spotted on continent west of England...

1810 - Advanced tribe of Yodelayheehoo found on the way to the war. Destroyer kills English catapult, we are now at war with mighty england! Comrade Ess leaves the final micromanagement of 1810 to his successor. Our knowledge of the world continues to expand. We are about to discover electronics, and freights approach the capitol to use as either deliveries or one of the 4 wonders available to us. Now if we could just find those damn Zulu...

Only five minor cities cancelled celebrations due to the luxury reduction, while our research rate sped up by a turn.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

1810: Vlad Antlerkov is appointed Chairman by the council. Upon his ascendancy, he meets with his advisors to see what it would take to get women the vote. They say that it would take around 500 shields. Vlad shoots them.

1812: Electronics discovered. All of our musketmen upgrade into Riflemen. After getting some new advisors, Vlad orders research into the field of atomic theory.

Construction on the Hoover Dam begins in Lutefisk. Caravans pile in, completing it.

1814: Zulus acquire Gunpowder Hoover completed. Now working on the United Nations. More exploring. Found English settlements on island west of England.

1816: More moving of caravans. Destroyer kills English caravel. Currently researching Combustion.

1818: U.N. completed in Lutefisk, construction underway in Desert Song on Women's Suffrage. 21 million citizens.

Our search for the Zulu scum has ended, oddly enough, south of Britain.

Checking on the French, we find that they still have only 3 cities.

1820: Isaac's almost complete in Lutefisk. Also decided to rename a few cities.

Vlad Antlerkov resigns as Chairman and moves to The Institute.
