so did I
yes, in the ship burning just run through it
get mers whern you can and realise you don't need to stay and fight, just get the dwarf guy to the ships (use your paladin to heal him)
I made it through with only my heroes alive

Now I've made it to the "Burn the Boats" mission but I keep getting bogged down by the undead and can not destroy the last boat before time runs out. What did you people do to get past this mission? |
Another hint for the boat mission: Near the end there is this road through a canyon with lot of enemy defence buildings on both sides of the road. Buy a teleport talisman at the shop right before the canyon, then just run through the canyon with your hero and teleport the others (12 units max, but that was enough for me) to you.

ok
what you do is you have rushes
oyu get together a group and park them right outside of the bad area
you have alread explored so you know right where to go
on the second one use flyers
(it should be easy by the way, I was not very efficient)
on the first one keep your units alive with your Death Knight
on the third one attack the cages to let out monsters to fight for you
the montsers will not be affected by the damaging wards
the third one took a heavy rush by me
set up your rushes and then move in
make sure to have adequite support (in the first on meatwagons)
kill stuff along the way, but remember your target is the wizard, be prepared to forget all else

I did it the same way!
In the last rush don't care at all about the other enemies, just go through and find the wizard asap. Use your undead healing spell on the wizard to drain his life. If you don't have any meatwagons for the last rush don't bother getting new ones only speed is important.

I don't really care about the graphics too much, what I don't really like:
-only 12 units can be selected at once
-selected units don't show their healthbar (did anyone ever try to heal a unit in group 2 when the hero is in group 1, during a battle it is near impossible)
-the zoom doesn't really let me zoom out as much as I want, it is a 3d game there is no reason why they don't let you zoom out further.
-the unit subselection system is not very logical: either they should use that system AND use the same keyboard shortcuts for all the spells of different units. Or they could leave out the subselection and give every spell a different shortcut.
-way too few spells can be automated IMO
these are all details that could be changed easily but without them the game would be so much better. My brother bought the game though, I'm looking forward to AoM.

From what I understand, Blizzard, in an effort to make it more widely playable, made much of the graphic engine to be run from your RAM instead of your video card RAM. This allowed for more PC owners that had lower end video cards but have enough RAM because that is cheaper. However, it means that overall you need more RAM in the game than other 3d games.

Beat it yesterday, too! I didn'r really like the last mission though, I just couldn't efficiently use spells when there are so many attackers everywhere. But the funny videos in the end compensated for it.
So what's everyone's favourite race? I prefer the Undead and the Nightelves right now - I need to test them in random games against the AI though.

in the last mission I totally kicked their asses (well, not totally)
they were finally getting to my town when the clock rean out (and they were only getting to it because they went arround my defensive line)

II took too long to get challenging, IMO. |
I thought it was very easy
there was only like 3 levels which I lost once and had to play again
