So reddy, how are the conservatives doing in your country?

This is the most affluent generation in British history, with the greatest set of personal freedoms ever enjoyed by anybody in this country, so I can only conclude that the younger generation are a bunch of whiny complacent fools who need a good slapping.

Or maybe we don't like Tories dictating what is good for us, or Labour giving false promises. As far as I can see section 28 is still in effect so no, I don't trust Labour.

There are two important facts you have to bear in mind.

1- Britain has never been terribly good at that patriotism thing and tends to regard the present government at any given time as interchangeable with things normally found living under rocks.

2- The favourite national pastime of the British is moaning. We weren't labelled "whingeing poms" for nothing.

I refuse to

Labour have been in power for 5 years, more than enough time to invoke the Parliament Act.

And don't even get me started on the Lords...

Full PM-box? Change here!

I have no problem with crime in Warwickshire . As in, never, ever, at all.

Football hooliganism is hardly rampant, either--the Millwall hooligans are certainly a separate entity from the fans of that club. The worst club in this regard is Cardiff, which (at least passively) encourage hooliganism. Go to a football match not involving Cardiff or Milwall and you should be fine.

For 2 years. It originally came into effect when the King helped it through (the Lords would have blocked it in a wonderful catch 22).

Jon's not 100% accurate. Lords can only delay a Bill for one year. It was two, but that power was trimmed in 1968 (IIRC). Opinion is divided as to whether it's a good or bad thing - they've blocked some things that I see as good (the foxhunting bill, the Section 28 repealing) and some things I see as bad (the hasty anti-terrorist bill). So I don't know where I stand, except that they're even more parasitical and undemocratic than the Commons.

Sixchan, it seems that many British residents were unhappy primarily because of the crime situation. If this is correct, then the conclusion that the so-called right is in trouble in Great Britain is probably incorrect. It is the right, after all, that is most concerned for law and order.

Right where they want them...riiiight....so walking all over the Tories is what they want...

If the Tories have the other two parties 'right where they want them' then how come they made a net gain of only 1 seat at the last election and their poll results have been going down ever since?

Sounds oddly familiar to when a Liberal government tried to push through a budget and the Tory Lords blocked it... Asquith (IIRC) went to the King and got him to threaten swamping of the Lords with Liberal peers if they didn't let it through.

Bless you Mr Murphy, I have learnt from thee
