Arenīt we jumping to conclusions
Perhaps Im looking at an old map, but couldnīt that little piece of grassland be exactly that, a LITTLE piece of grassland. We donīt even know where they are.How can we possibly be planning full-scale invasion at this point.

It would seem, at least to me, that sticking to exploration and building the empire up would be the far wiser option at this point.

I think those people who haven't played at Emperor level should try it (i've tried once but i got my ass kicked). There is NO way we could build up peacefully because the ai expands very quickly AND builds up a high culture. We must fight. Probably with archers. If we strike soon, take a few cities, and then negotiate peace we can get loads of tech. Waiting 20 turns ain't such a big deal... they'll be crippled anyway. Ripe for the picking like a fresh banana.

I wont let our reputation slip needlessly. If we go to war, and then go to peace, i wont allow us to go to war before the 20 turn limit is up. Especially at a difficulty where reputation is hard to keep, we can't allow ourselves to go down the drain quicker than neccesary.

If we drop them to one city and then allow some peace, then we should 1: keep them around for (atleast) 20 turns for trade of tech
2: surround their final city's borders with military, wait for the 20 turns to be up, and then attack (this worked for me in my last game, with no diplomatic fuss to clean up afterwards)

But once they are down to one city, to allow diplomatic harm to come to us is needless. It is as simple as just overruning them immeadiately, or overrunning them in 20 turns. nothing in between is good enough for me.

kicking there ass, then ask for peace + tech (if they have any) then declaring war after the 20 turns passes and destroy them! that way we can speed up some of our research, also trading one of our techs for one of theirs would be ok, since we are going to kill them anyway!

I say start building up the army send units to their borders, watch what they are up to until we are ready and then strike and strike hard. This is what I would do if I had been elected instead of Ninot.

I would have to agree to this, there is no evidence that the french are planning to expand in our direction. We will have to go to war at some stage but we do not have the units or the means to get them to france (wherever that may be). Everyone is getting a bit ahead of themselves by worring over the french at this stage, besides, france is stronger!!

War is inevitable -yet perhaps not necessarily with the french.

We have poor positioning. We need to improve it in order to survive.

Start with wariors. They eventually will become swordmen if they live. Use them to scout out the french and all other lands in the area. Don't let them get to far away as soon they will be needed.

Research archers soon. Also bronze and iron and horsies. If you make war at this stage, go all out on military. Spare nothing. Make no peace with them unless you have to - else your diplo is killed.

Start researching now if war is the choice.

Start building road now. Even if no war, it will prove usefull. more so than irrigation, clearing or mining will.

Our homeland sucks - so whoever we kill off first their cities will most likely become our cultural center. Best to do so ASAP. But to wage war first we must prepare, which means scouting and building an army.

Well, france may be stronger, but it's probably only by 1-2 warriors. I will have to agree with you about the French expanding toward us at this point, (they would'nt want jungle) But we should grab as much land close to their capital as we can. If there is no jungle there, we couldmaybe find horsies and build chariots over there.

We should worry about France however, because if we ignore them for too long and not colonize near them, they will notice how weak we are and attack us.
