-Nah. He's inherited the position largely. Just because someone can tell you what to do doesn't necessarily mean they're smarter, often it's the opposite (see Dilbert Principle).

Bush hasn't told me what to do about anything.

And telling people what to do doesn't in anyway indicate intelligence.

110 - 120, not dumb, but certainly not smart enough to 'lead the free world'.

Honestly, I said 100-110. Bush is probably of about average intelligence, but is inordinately inarticulate and prone to verbal gaffes, like his father but only much worse. In addition, he has probably damaged his brain a good deal with his earlier drinking and coke-snorting habits, compounding problems.

He probably does have a learning disability, and it's probably mild dyslexia. Nothing that hasn't afflicted much smarter people, though.

Why do you need an High IQ to lead the free world?

I, in fact, welcome the average. My problem with Bush (and the same one I have with Gore) is that he is in Big Businesses pocket.

Oh, like you aren't cranky, Chris?

The fact that the man is President doesn't mean he's intelligent. Lot's of less than brilliant people end up on top because of who they are, not they are. Conversely, lots of really smart folks don't succeed because they lack connections.

He succeeded in business only because people handed him businesses. He succeeded in politics only because people handed him offices (including the Presidency of the United States).

As others mentioned, he was an adequate student. If you have enough money you can get into any school. Motor skills don't prove how smart you are.

Neither does who your daddy was, and all the connections in the world won't propell you to the top, where he is.

If anyone believes that a dumb person can't make it into the white house, all they have to do is look is look at Dan Qualye. No one can deny that he was a rather dim bulb, yet all it would have taken was a heart attack on the part of George Bush Sr. to make him the President.

Because, one, they don't have his charm. Nor do they have his connections. Heck, even the press was saying that Bush would be the next president, almost a year before the primaries. This guy wasn't elected, he was annointed. The election was a formality, albeit one that had to be fixed.

Reagan didn't bring the Soviets to their knees. They did that themselves. Reagan was a rather mediochre president, when the hype and bias are stripped away. By '84 it is clear he was no longer really in charge. According to the minutes of the meetings to which we have access, he slept through most of them. I believe him when he said he couldn't recall anything of Iran-Contra.

If you want an example of a right-wing President I consider smart, take Nixon. Clearly one of the most evil men to hold that office, and among the most corrupt. He was a danger to our democracy and human rights and came close to going to war with the USSR over the 1973 Arab-Israeli War. That doesn't mean I'd consider him dim.

I'd guess he's about average, just a little bit on the mis-informed side.

You also have to remember that speeches are written for leaders, so often they aren't great at public speaking. Bush may say silly things, but that could be simply due to the pressure of millions of people staring at him through TV cameras, and that your mistakes can be seen again and again.

so about 110-120.

Age is not maturity, when you get a little older you may come to realize this.
Look at what's said in the thread, because they don't like him, he is a low grade moron to some, a golden child to others, a fool to a third, and based on what?

When told of his education, we hear how he had bad grades, that his schools wern't tough, he slid by on his old man's coattails...

All sour grapes.

Show proof, or shut up.

So simple even you can do it.

Prior to Reagen, there was no evidence that the SU would fall. They looked as strong as they ever had. I can say from personal knowledge that militarily they were at the height of their threat to us at that time. Reagens personal attitude toward them and the US military renewal scared the aging Soviet leadership (who had had it there way in US-Soviet relations for too long). I doubt that Reagen imagined that his policies would have the effect the did, but they were the catalyst for the eventual fall of the SU.

The fact that he has inadequate command of his mother tongue, even after a university education, should sound warning sirens.

At the very least he should be able to make acceptable public speeches. That is a basic skill needed for leadership, in the same way that an understanding of pipes is needed for plumbing, or ability to ride is needed for jockeying. But he can't.

So what, bad military test scores and mediocre grades aren't proof of less than average intelligence? The fact that the man hasn't succeeded at anything without the intense help of others doesn't say something about his abilities?

He can't answer unscripted questions well. He reads children the same book, over and over, The Hungry, Hungry Catipiller, (what, he can't read another book?), the fact that White House staffers go out of their way to talk about how smart Bush really is . . . it all smells of someone who's less than smart. Maybe I'm just used to really smart people, but he doesn't seem all that average to me.
