So, Mark, why did you choose MySql and how does it compare to any other db's you have used? I had someone looking for advice on how bullet-proof it is and I wouldn't have thought it was good enough to support apolyton, but it seems I'm wrong.

the main reason for using mysql is that our forum software, vBulletin, is using it.

when it comes to sizes, mysql has been proven to hold much more than our current average traffic, being succesfull even when we had 800-900 concurrent users back in november

beyond that, the php/mysql combination has many advantages, especially in terms of availiable ready sollutions, as well as tons of code examples and helpfull communities ready to assist a developer...

i'm not entirely sure there is a connection

the chat script is programmed to not do anything if the server load is over a certain number and the server has had no problem(e.g. it survived) with triple that load

I think it was last monday, when I had real trouble opening pages at apolyton. Could it be because of problems at our end (not that you would know about problems in our end - but was there something wrong at your end)?

Here... page took 157 seconds to open. That is averagely 20 times more than usual for me.

However, can you tell me what the disruption is every day at about 2 to 4 pm est. I think it is 2, because I usually encounter it at about 4 mst.

The site gets very sluggish, and in many cases it's better to just give up and come back in an hour.
