Don't worry, as far as I know PBEMs have to be played at Prince level because if not they suffer a myriad of bugs.

As I recall it was due to something about the combat odds, they arent the same when fighting AI units at the higher levels, which means that a deity pbem will have units defending incredibly well (as the AI is controlling those units when its not your turn).

This may or may not be true, but it was what I was told when learning pbem (back around when I first joined apolyton), and it certainly did seem like this was the case when I tried a 2194 days played on King rather than Prince

The first player must be the player whose civ has to move in first place in this scenario. e.g. The Germans in the IIWW scenario launched with Civ II.
