Re: Country Quiz II - Sweden Inflate your Upload Space

Ok, this goes by improvisation...

1) Queen Christina of Sweden, daughter of Gustavus Adolphus, resigned her crown and left the country in 1654. Why?

I have no idea

2) Can you name three evil capitalist multinational corporations that originated in Sweden?

Ericsson, Abba (not the band, you morons... hmm, I'm not sure about that company, though, I have a distant memory of it being Finnish... ), SAS

3) Which swedish prime minister was assassinated in 1986, a crime that still hasn't been solved?

Olof Palme

4) In which year did Sweden last host the Olympic games?

1956, Stockholm. Maybe...

5) What war did Sweden last openly participate in?

The War of Finland, 1808-09

6) The swedish forest contains four large predatorial animals. Can you name three of them?

Bear, wolf and lynx. The fourth would be wolverine ...

7) What activity not usually associated with cities is not only possible but very viable to do off Stockholm's bridges?

...Bungee-jumping?

8) Can you name one Swedish island?

Gotland and Öland being the two most "famous..."

9) Name three famous swedish bands/artists

Abba, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity (hey... the latter two are famous! just in small circles...)

10) Name three famous swedish actors (you can´t mention the ones below)

Ingmar Bergman, and... DUH!

11) She was known as Greta Gustafsson when she did movies with Mauritz Stiller in the 1920s. She then moved to Hollywood and changed her name. Who is she?

Greta Garbo

12) Another famous swedish actress married an equally famous italian director in 1950. What´s her name?

...

13) They had a daughter who also became famous and was married to Martin Scorsese between 1979 and 1983. What´s her name?

...The entertainment world isn't my strongest area.

14) He was the Secretary-General of UN between 1953-1961 and the only Secretary General that have been killed during his term of office.

...I should know this... i shouldishouldishould... FUKC IT!... doh... It's right on the tip of my lip... GRAAAHHHH I'LL KILL YOU ALL!!!!

15) This high ranking nazi had strong ties to Sweden and was married to a swedish woman. The name, bitte.

Hitler? Nah, no idea.

16) How many swedes are at the moment playing in the NHL? (gold star if you know which ones and what team the play in)

Hmh, Mats Sundin and Tommy Salo is all that comes to my mind. I don't follow NHL much anymore, but I'd estimate the number to be around 15

17) Name three other athlets (no hockey players)

Hmh... don't watch other sports much, either

18) Sweden was never much of a imperialist nation, but it had three small colonies in the 17th and 18th centurys. Where?

One in America, Delaware perhaps? ... one in Africa, around Gambia (or Gabon?). And some small islands on the Caribbean. It did own Martinique for a short period of time.

19) Which of these inventions are NOT swedish?
Ship propeller, dynamite, monkey wrench, AXE telephone system and computer mouse.

I'd guess the two latest

20) What´s the name of Swedens only astronaut?

...Doh... Håkan or Svante (I remember a friend of mine having two cats [who were homosexual] named that way)

Good luck!
Well, f*ck you too

I'd estimate my score around 5.

Sundin and Hoglund with the Leafs
Salo with the Oilers
Forsberg with Colorado
Lidstrom and Holmstrom with Detroit
Naslund and the Sedin twins with Vancouver
Alfredsson with Ottawa

Plus a bunch of guys named jonsson or something like that.

I'd say there are about 24 Swedes in the NHL.

IIRC, The first Swede to play in the NHL was Borje Salming with the Leafs.

Dag Hamersjold (sp?) is the U.N. guy no one else can remember. I only remember because there was a commemerative stamp with him on it which had a rare misprint. (I collected stamps for a while (1970-1972) when I was a kid, and I have a pretty good memory.)

Swedish actors:

Ingrid Bergman
Max von Sydow
Ingmar Bergman (better known as a director)
