Well I must say it is nice to see you have defeated the one game wonder flaw Quinn. At least they are wiped from the rankings after a few weeks of inactivity.

Good job, the one win I am the best does not apply here.

01. quinns..............Deity........6........1....USA
02. berXpert............Deity........7........1....MEX
03. TheBirdMan..........Deity........1........6....DEN
04. Lung................Deity........0........1....AUS
05. checkMate...........Deity........3........2....USA
06. david42one..........Deity........3........3....USA
07. ricketyclik.........Deity........0........4....AUS
08. hatschy.............Deity........2........0....AUT
09. Mathemagician.......Deity........4........2....GER
10. geoffrey arnold.....Deity........0........1....AUS
11. Milamber............Deity........1........2....USA
12. Nimrod..............Deity........-........-....USA

17. ChadCoffman.........Prince.......0........1....USA
18. shaved_ape..........Prince.......0........1....RSA

Now I do not understand this, Ber has one more win than you yet you remain tops?
Birdy has 6 loses and one win yet he is third?
Math has four wins and two loses yet he is 9th?

Lung has one loss and he is 4th lololol. Ok what is up with that?

I am not critisizing the rankings but any layman looking at this would say the same. In fact they do.. Hatschy is 2 and 0 yet he is 8th? heck he has better stats than you do?
I will take a wild guess here and say it is dog eat dog here. You can only be best if you beat the best right? The amount of games played obviously does not matter, hatschy in 8th? Confusion...

So if I was to join and beat you, win then say take the weakest challenger in the two week span I too could keep first place for a lifetime?

Again no disrespect could you explain it better as far as what we perceive with the above rankings?

Regards

Black

Right Blackice. This is a LADDER not a ranking system. Have you never been on a challenge ladder anywhere in any other capacity??? I thought challenge ladders were common knowledge to most everyone. Did you read the first post in this thread? It explains it there. You got it right... You have to beat the player above you to take his position. That's it. If they decline too many challenges or ignore challenges, they drop down or off. And as far as you challenging me... Sure, I accept the challenge. In actual ladder etiquette, you can only challenge 3 up from the bottom of deity, but I will give you a shot at the title by challenging you directly (from the top down). That still fits within the rules.

Right - but my 6 losses are all against no 1 and 2 on the ladder (3 each) and my victory against no 7.

Presently I am defending my position by playing against no 4, 6, 7, 8 and 14. Plus I have a pending game against no 9.

I guess that should be enough - unless some of those youngsters are kicking my ass, forcing me a step or two down the ladder.

Put an end to popups!

Thanks for your reply people

Well not sure if I have time, multipalyer rankings is begging for a new start, but in all fairness I am not special nor am I Paul

I have no idea where on the ladder I would start as a deity beater? Seems to me that is where if any place I should start right?

Then I would start at 3 challenges above where I am on the ladder, to continue my surge forward? Where is that starting point?

Ok so I start there and continue to challenge. Do I have to accept all challanges or what I chose to? I mean why would I pick last place when first place is beggin for a new name?

If I am first can I simply accept weaker opponents?
If so or not, as Birdy points out, does it take that combination and that many games to keep one's position?

Blackice... Good to see you here. You start at the bottom of the deity players because you have beaten deity on a/i. That's the starting point for all new ladder players -- at the bottom of their BAID or Best A/I Defeat group. In this case, you could challenge Nimrod, Milamber, or geoffrey arnold. Then just work your way up if you win. That's how it goes in the normal sense. As far as what challenges you have to accept, that is open ended. In general, you should try to accept all challenges from 3 below you. Any other challenges are completely up to you to accept or reject. If you play like Lung you can continue to dodge challenges for awhile but that will soon catch up to him and we will have to drop Lung down a few notches if he continues to do that. If you can't accept a challenge from three below for whatever reason, simply state the reason here in this thread. Lung has kept his position because he gave legitimate excuses as to why he couldn't accept the challenge... but that's starting to wear thin Lung I'll add you to the ladder at the bottom of Deity. Good luck to you!

ok, thanks Quinns I understand the ladder concept but in most cases the rules vary. So if one does take top spot they could just play weaker players to remain there. Mind you weaker still remains the top 4 and the top four here could beat most mortal men.

Ok who is up for a game?

Hmm. In my quest for a greater understanding of CtP via PBEM, I found this. Yet I am hesitant to add my name to the list.

What would anyone gain from adding me to the bottom of the list, having won at the very most one game, and that at the lowest level?!?!?!

MrWhereItsAt "What would anyone gain"

You would gain a game, experience, fun, allies and possibly a new ladder ranking.

We would gain a game, experience, fun, an ally and possibly a win or loss.

Is that not why you are here? Or would you prefer a multiplayer game with loads of diplomacy?
Or perhaps an online game? I will be online tonight nl server at 9:00 pm est.

Your choice it's all here, I am sure you will find most, if not all people here, very open to discussions of strategy and winning tactics. Let alone wine women and song...

Or beer, barbeques, beaches and babes

Pick your poison and have at it.

Got it (I think).

I have changed compatibilitymode for CivCTP.exe from standard (WIN XP) to Win95. The game uses very long time to save the turn, but it does save it.

I do think, this happens from time to time, therefore I change it back now after playing the turn - then let us see.

Rediculous? Odd word to use, but yes many online games have been played that way and a few PBEM's too. Ruins can be removed without modifying the game files also.

It simply takes a gentlemans agreement also, easy really.

Who is making the map, setting up the game?

What about the AI? Do you not want to go head to head?

It isn't that bad, checkMate. Birdman and I did it in one of our challenge matches. Pretend the ruins are SACRED to both of your civilizations and trespassing would be a desecration! That's not to say that barbarians and other civ's will respect your religious beliefs.

I can make a backup file too, but, barbarians bring 'em on

Other civs makes me think, one can not do it alone, tête à tête that is a test of skill..Is it not?

AI is kinda like having a hired gun to shoot rubber bands at the head of the person opposit you in a chess match. Don't you think?

Or is it more like cannon fodder? Or is that you can use them in your victory...Some what like barbarians. :0)

Barbarians though are more like terrorist's and make the game interesting

AI are like a pest but like terrain they can influence a win.

Any one feel up to loading a game for us? Impartial, if so I will return the favor.

No AI no RUINS lots of barbs

Just though I would ask...

That done I will email you with your clarifications you asked for Checkmated, ;0)

Thanks for the thoughts Quinn

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

They band the rubber bands from rated chess tournaments. But in club play anything goes

Actually I guess we should play dual dual.

Lets play with exactly the standard settings above except GOODS=100% and Diverse=60%.

Go ahead and set it up. I think you create a game, save it. Send me that saved game. Then open the game play a turn and send me that one also. Then we both have blue and orange. First one to win either game wins.
