Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

BTW, Konqueror is bundled with the KDE, so it isn't exactly that light to use.

QC,

how can you say that Mozilla would be a Opera imitation? For instance Opera doesn't include a communication program like ChatZilla, and it's e-mail and Usenet features are pathetic compared to Mozilla Mail. And let's not forget the address book tool and Composer. The sidebar isn't a copy of Opera actually. Not to mention all the available sidebar tabs. The page verification tools are also something that Opera doesn't have. And when it comes to development, there's more developer information available compared to Opera. Just some Mozilla rumblings.

Konqueror isn't too good, IMHO. The version on my school's computers has problems rendering Apolyton (these were described earlier), although the version on my computer doesn't seem to have any problems.

* ssh's to a computer at school and uses X11 forwarding *

Hm. It seems to work correctly now. Ah well. Mozilla doesn't seem to work at all (whines about not finding its runtime directory), so my environment is probably just screwed up a little.

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

To be honest I do prefer IE, but as that's not working at the moment and I can't be bothered figuring out a solution Opera suits my needs quite well.

At least as long as you have the computrons for running Mozilla without such fun things as visibly lagging text input or looong waits when switching tabs, and the patience to wait for it to start up...

If you don't - it's Opera all the way.

Don't you have the option of restoring the previous version or fixing the current version, if you choose to uninstall it through the Add/Remove Software thingy?

The clue is that Opera has been designed to be a light weight browser, while Mozilla and Netscape are more powerful with the Gecko engine that demands PC capacity. At least I don't have any of the problems listed above with Mozilla.

one word for mozilla: bloatware.
two words for netscape 7: aolplug and bloatware.
two words for ie: bloatware and microsoft.
two words for opera: annoying banner.

between those four browsers, i'd pick the one that's least annoying most times around. and that's the banner of opera.

i realize that mozilla's got a ton of features that opera doesn't have. but the simple fact is opera came out with tabbed browsing first, so is it any wonder that it looks like mozilla copied it, even if it is functioning differently? i'm not talking about the sidebar-- i'm talking about viewing multiple pages in a single window.

as for developer information: mozilla happens to be open source. opera is not.

overall, i still have mozilla, ie, and opera on my system. i just tend to favor opera because of the mouse gestures, the popup killer, tabbed browsing, and the ability to open pages in the background.

I wouldn't call IE bloaty, it's the speediest of the browsers on my PC. Even faster than Opera. Blame it all you want on system integration, that's one of its features.

actually, i have no problem with using IE. i also think that microsoft did a good thing by finally introducing the concept of using a web browser to browse your HD files-- and was sorely pissed when i had to reinstall win95 on an old system and found that IE5 does not integrate itself, and that i needed to install IE4 to do that.

as for bloated, yeah, i'd say that. especially when opera clocks in at 3mb, while ie clocks in at around 10... on a 56k modem, asher, which i have while i'm not at college, those 7mb take forever.

Unfortunatly this is not true I can't choose if I deinstall IE or not. IE is not number one, because it is good, but because you were not able to remove it from windows intirely. And that is wrong with this browser, I am sorry Micro$oft can intergrate it into Windows and take some of my freedom away, but at least I am free not to use it and therefore I use my power, even if it wastes system ressources. But I don't support this strategy.

But that's the problem. MS (M$ for Glonk) shoves IE down your throat, want or not... I don't want anything to waste resources but me.
