Also, the purpose of the new voting machines isn't necessarily to make voting easier. It is to eliminate the chad problem. No chads, no problem.

BTW, the infamous Democrat who designed the Palm Beach county ballots, turns out she was a former Republican. Two months before the 2000 election, she quit the Democratic Party. Not that her party affiliation means anything really. Just thought you'd like to know.

Question? If Republican voters are theoretically smarter than Democratic voters, why do Republicans end up voting in the stupidest politicians? Six years back in a poll of the ten dumbest members of Congress by the members of COngress themselves (a Republican controlled Congress, let me remind you), all were Republicans. We now have one of the dumbest Presidents in recent history, when several more intelligent candidates were available in the primaries (Elizabeth Dole and McCain, Dole being the smartest one in the bunch).

Che, intelligence doesn't always give you the best results. Kennedy was pretty smart and a horrid President.

And of course, I'd take Ike over Stevenson anyday.

but just maybe, just maybe, it's the voters and the volunteers.

i mean really? how hard is it to figure out how to turn one of those machines on? maybe it's the manufacturer's problem? the ones demonstrated in georgia had a simple switch in the back.

you know, it's not always the fault of "the system" or "the man"... sometimes it's just plain stupidity on the user's end.

in tech support, we call this OE when we're feeling generous, OHS when we're not.

On a related - and deliciously ironic - note, it appears that Katherine Harris' votes may not be counted in the upcoming Florida GOP primary!

No such intent is required for a finding of defamation (but is required to actualy recover damages when a public figure is the defamed) defamation can lie at a fault of no more than negligence or ignorance, depending on the jurisdiction. The state resign to run law cannot affect her status as a candidate for federal office. It is already determined in federal courts that states can not add qualifications to federal offices and specificaly they cannot deny candidacy on a resign to run basis (That case involving the prior resign to run law in Fla). It can only affect her status (automaticaly resigned) in the prior state office. That is some other agurment here that some part of her federal oath form involved filing for congress is defective, but the idiot reporters, as usual in legal matters, do not seem capable of report on the real gist of the case is.

Reno conceded Tuesday afternoon. Woulda been nice to see her beat Jeb, just as a poke at the current lump in the White House. McBride has the personality of toast.

Gore was in town today, I wanted to go see him but that would have meant waking up pretty early to go someplace I don't know where. Too bad, mighta been interesting.

Apparently Miami-Dade and Broward counties gave inadequate training to the older election workers (and isn't that just about all of them). All the ones they interviewed on TV had New York accents.

The Republicans are blaming the Democrats, the Democrats are blaming the state, and the state is blaming the counties. The one group everyone down here is saying isn't at fault are the voters.

Meanwhile, no one is paying attention to the election scandal here in REPUBLICAN Duval county. Back in 2000, this was the worst county for spoiled ballots. We screwed up again this time. Duval's election mess is again the worst in the state, but the media focuses on the Democratic countries alone, and makes it seem like it isn't a statewide, bipartisan problem.

It seems to me that they could have run a mock test here in the state using the schools. Set up the booths in schools and have children across the state pick out their favorite birds and singers, to see if the software works when being used by large groups all at once, to see if the election workers know how to work the booths, etc.
