Well I have begun working on my technology tree for my mod, and I had porcelain alloys..... I hope you dont mind, the concept was there, but I think I meant ceramic alloys
(I just realized after reading this thread I was talking about making super strong alloys out of a mix of china and titanium, or maybe toilet bowls and titanium )
Anyways, computers use binary numbers.......
so one of my techs is trilogicals, or chips that use 3 values, +, 0, & -. instead of electrons or absence of electrons being 1 & 0 respectively, H atoms are stripped of their electrons and separated (how?.. I dunno)into two banks of protons and electrons. As they pass through nano-etches in a non-metallic substance... (a porcelain alloy perhaps? )

any help, scientific retort?

figure1 3d rendering
figure2 a proton passes through, pulling up the -charged (forgot my high school chemistry... is that possible?) large atom, breaking the circuit and being noted as a +
figure 3 no proton or electron, 0
figure 4 an electron passes through, pulling down positiviely charged atom, breaking current, and releasing -

of course the devil is in the details....

heh Ceramic alloys do sound like that dont they? Well they aren't. Some times its made out of this: Chrome/Cobalt Base Alloy
Other times its made out of this:
Diamond
So as you can see its not allways china and etc. its actually a type of alloy that has high strength, durability, and is thermal stability-sag resistance. The Diamond is.

-Off topic...

Your graphics look good in the Civ. 3 forum. We are in need of some graphics people if you are interested.

Oh yeah, I know, I meant ceramic alloys, but I called it porcelain alloys, ther is a large difference, since I think porcelain is glazed ceramics...
I had a friend whose dad was engineering a ceramic spray that could withstand enormous amounts of heat, and not become brittle....

but porcelain alloys.... I dont think so.

perhaps some other techs of note would be theory of infinity, where infinity is introduced as a number, akin to 0 in properties... and law of gravity where finally a better explanation than "matter has a tendency to be attracted to itself" can explain what causes that attraction.... (as of now, its just some magical attraction)

my models are not 3ds format yet, and I have only begun to experiment with 3ds in the past week......

EDIT: sorry I thought this was the think tank thread

We've had "theory of infinity" for over a hundred years or so. It's called transfinite mathematics.

about the attract of matter siencists just discovered gravitons.....they are a elemental partical that transfers gravity as fast as light......so gravity is a form of radation just like light and radiowaves

In fact, gravity also is a distortion of the "fabric" of space/time. You can imagine this like some kind of elastic membrane, with some "punches" caused by masses plased on it; this "punches" act on moving particles, attracting them. In fact, this picture isn't either complete or correct; BTW, graviting masses "punch" both space and time; this effect is subtile, but it was measured for Earth gravity field. If I remember correctly, gravitons must be zero mass (hence acting at the distance), spin = 2 particles.
BTW, D.B.T.S. where they were dicovered?

Graviton, afaik, wasn't "discovered" per se. It was a theorized particle for a quantum version of theory of gravity (or quantum gravity).

As for gravity being the result of distortion in space-time fabric. This was what was described in the General Theory of Relativity (which turned out to be a theory of gravity), where gravity wasn't a "force" anymore, but the result of distortion.

The two models are... unfortunately, not mutually compatible, just like Quantum Mechanics and Relativites aren't... The search for a unified theory continues...

Anyway, just FYI.

well i just read somewhere that gravity has speed....it was in a science article not to long ago....and if it travel it need something to get them moving....those where called gravitons......they are everywhere as far as i understand......they pass along the gravity.....but that is all i know.....so if they can somehow measure and study gravitons you can have a complete theory of gravity like neOmega suggested

hmm transfinite mathematics... a little strange... I dont get it, (from the 10 minutes I spent reading about it)

however, I was looking at it as more like the relationship between 0, (is not) 1, (is) and Infinity (is always)

like divide infinity by zero to make infinity
divide zero by infinity to make 0

divide 1 by 0 to make infinity
divide 1 by infinity to make 0

divide infinity by 1 to make infinity
divide zero by 1 to make 0

1 x (infinity) = infinity
1 x 0 = 0

infinity x 0 = 1
infinity x infinity = infinity
0 x 0 = 0

I know "dividing by zero" is impossible, but the number infinity is not recognized as a "real" number, yet zero, which is just the opposite of the same concept, is.

In differential calculus, however, infinity and zero are used to to say "as this value approaches 0, (or infinity), what happens to this value?

In the boundaries one sets for a mathematicle equation, it is impossible for infinity to exist, because a number is a finite object, and can be subtracted, or divided out of an equation. I think of infinity as a constant line, that runs through space and time, and flows onto your paper, through it and out the other end, and you just call on it to solve problems posed by the trilogical chip

As far as gravity having speed, that (in my mod) is what I propose "dark matter" is. I wrote up a long treatise on it, but basically it is matter travelling in the opposite "direction" of the speed of light squared, the dark area of the fractal image.....

I know I am full of it, but it is fun.

EDIT: OH MAN I AM SO SORRY
I did it again, I just reply to the e-mail that says someone has replied to a forum I have subscribed to. So again I posted brainstorming on the tech list thread.... sorry.

The difficulty in coming up with mathematical future inventions is that nothing simple won't do... simple things have been figured out already and there's no reason to assume that any of that will be forgotten. The best bet is to concentrate on computer-heavy areas like experimental math or algorithms for this and that.

J.B., it looks like you "list" is actualy some kind of partialy flattened tree, as it includes items of different levels. So it should better have more narrow base of several very general fields and diverge into more discriptive disciplines later. So not "Geology rather than Diamontology" but "Geology / Diamontology".

why do there need to be so many categories? why don't you merge Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy and such into one section, called "natural Sciences"
computers, mathematics, engineering and such into "manmade science"
philosofy, theology, history and such into social sciences.

Hmm, wouldn't be better to make the number of categories smaller? That way, you could avoid loosing categories as the advance level of Tech develops?

Maybe something like this:

-Warfare and Defence(For new weapons, defense systems and war machines)

-Construction and Engineering (New buildings and structural improvements, as well as different kinds of designs)

-Biology and Health (For agriculture, biologic life studies and health care)

-Sociology (Related to the different aspects of society, such as education, religion, ways of thinking etc)

-Economy and Industry (Technologies that affect the extraction of material, proscessing, manufacturing and economics. Has much common areas with Politics, Weaponry and Construction)

-Politics and Diplomacy (How to rule the nation and manage diplomacy with other groups. Forms of government and international agendas)

-Mathematics and Physics (The field of abstract science that can affect the nation in a huge way by giving important advances)

-Chemistry and Refining (How to work with new resources and refine them. Has a big impact in war aspects, construction and biology as well)

-Arts and Literature (The crucial area of knowledge, arts and entertainment. Affects wide regions of technology)

Now, those would be the Base Fields. After that, as technology develops, field combination can give birth to new, secondary groups of advances. Here are some examples:

-Nanotechnology (Influencing practiacally every area of knowledge, from medicine to construction, this is the key for prosperity)

-Psyonics (Greatly changes the way of society, politics and diplomacy, as well as having some minor effects in other areas)

-Magitechnology (Thanks to incredibly advances techologies, a virtual real of "false magic" can be reached, with great innovations for industry and war arts)

Now, some Tech ideas (ignore them if they have already been proposed):

-ProdClones:(Biology) Thanks to huge advances in the fields of bioengineering, new kinds of "specially designed humans" can be created, to work in extremely hard condition. Very suitable for increasing production in harsh planets.

-Nanosteel Muscles:(Nanotechnology) Using supertensile nanosteel strings, a speciall alloy of muscular sustances and that material can be used to greatly increase strenght.

-Hypermatter: (Chemistry) Unestable byproduct of neutronium production, hypermatter practically escapes the normal lines of atomic density.

-Core Minning: (Industry) Resource extraction directly from the core of the planet, with inmense amount of metal.

-Core Waste Disposal:(Engineering; This one is from MoO2) Thanks to the advance of Core Minning, huge amounts of toxic waste can be simply stocked in the deepts of a planet, erasing pollution from the surface.

-Weather Control: (Chemistry-Nanotech) Thanks to specialy enginnered naite cristals, a region's (or planet's) climatic pattern can be used as wished.

-Tachyon Physics: (Physics) Deep studies on the realm of superluminal speeds, where physic as we know it has practically no sense.

-Gravital Combustion: (Physics) Applying mass to gravitons and then fussing them to create titanic amount of propuslion energy, both for engines and for weapons.

-Pre Destinated Society: (Sociology) Using complex genetic clasification, the new members of a society can be pre destinated to their spots in it before they born. Makes the society perfectly functional, but may arrise intense ethical troubles.

-Megagraphic Mechanics: (Mathematics) Practically infinet complexity of graphical systems, allowing for the creationg of unimaginable computers.

-De-Coherent Luminics: (Physics - Warfare) Simply put, the end of the Laser era.

-Quantic Foam Energetics: (Physics-Nanotech) Harvesting the most reliable power source in the universe. Inmense amounts of energy can be obtained from one of the fundamental parts of everything.

-Quantic Foam Decalibration: (Physics - Warfare) Being practically a mass of subatomic black holes, Quantic Foam can become very unestable by external mean, turning itself in a very powerfull weapon.

-Strong ForceWeakening: (Physics-Warfare) By weakening the force that keep atoms together, very effective weapons against defenses can be created.

-Momentum Deconservation: (Physics) By using electric compensators, ships can ripp off all their momentum, considerably increasing the efficiency of it's engines.

-Metamathematics: (Mathematics) How to put 4 into 2. Thanks to this new way of seeing nature, scientific advance can become boosted.

-Self-Modifiying Structures: (Engineering-Nanotech) Machines and buildings can now fix themselves, without the supervison of human or cyborg. Shipsh can quickly recover between battles.

-Gravital Mutation (Magitechnology) The gravimetric spectrum of a body can be severely mishaped, causing havoc to the source of it.

-Ethereomechanics: (Magitechnology) Non-physical structures and machines are a pefect mean for exploration or resource-short regions.

-Negatomic Friction: (Physics) By frictioning material atoms with antimatterial negatoms, and controling their catastrophicsl results, one can obtain an endless source of energy.

-Space-Time Sphere Compresion: (Physics) By compresing huge parts of the fabric of reality, inmense distances can be traveled in 0 time.

-Space-Time Sphere Superposition: (Physics) By putting one area of universe inside another, wide new options for room-short areas are opened.
