I have made a version of AOW with no railroads, that's what I changed, the roads, not the units, not the civs or the cities or any other stuff, Exile did a good job of that. I just wanted to see what AOW would be like with no RRs, so I changed the roads in each country and changed the road movement value to 8 instead of 3 and I think it is an improvement. I asked Exile permission to do this and he denied it so I won't be giving the scenario to anyone else or making any PBEMs of it unless he gives permission.
So I've play tested it in single player and I think the movement is more realistic but I would like Exile to look at it and see what he thinks of it.
If anyone else thinks AOW with no RRs is a good idea, say so.

It has been so long since I played the last turn in this pbem that I had forgotten nearly everything about the country...
well, there seems to be a lack of commitment to this game Cyrion. So i guess if you can check in here every 3 days or so, you will be among the most active players.
I guess this tells me how little have happened here over the last month or so...
I must admit I haven't got the slightest idea what is going on in this game: the pace is so slow...

I think I recognize some of those quotes...
And Darius, I thought you prefered History to AOW ?? Ok, ok, I know, it was BEFORE you started to play it... And I prefered AOW from the beginning, if only because you don't have too many units at the start and have some time to "get into it"...
Now, to be fair, if the History PBEM got slow and quite uninteresting originally, it's not because it is unbalanced, but rather because of some players being slow, quitting and such: it came rather from the players than from the scen, IMHO. (and the problems started BEFORE your game by Civfanatics).
And then about Soundwave and his supposed DLs: I don't know about Von Blucher (though I doubt it), and I think Sepp Dietrich and such were at Civfanatics and NOT here!! So I'm really not sure Soundwave had ANY DL at Poly!
And about the scen: yes, IMHO it's a rip off! but I think that SW didn't see anything wrong in modifying a scen to suit his taste better (I'm NOT saying he was right, but it's not as if he got money from it or even tried hard to be admired for his scen!) with high move units and such!
And Exile, he didn't say you approved but mentionned that his work was based on yours, that's all:
quote:
Now the Honour Role
Most of all Exile for the 'Scenario template' and I always wanted to do a scenario like this.
|
Now I agree, he should have asked (and I have the feeling you would have refused, but that's not the point!).
So, I just wanted to clarify a few things, as I am playing in both the "Another AOW" (BTW Exile, it's the game I prefer from those I'm in, your scen is great, even for the backward Ottoman player! but I must admit the people I am playing it with are helping making it fun, thanks guys!) and the original "History" PBEM (I am the one not remembering what happens from turn to turn and complaining it's too slow !)

I admit it, but remember that I saw History before AoW and naturally enjoyed the one I saw first. Also, I was just taken in by the nice graphics and the fascinating era, not the amount of thought put into the scenario. I had only been here a few months and wasn't exactly some sort of scenario connoisseur, and I wasn't aware of AoW or the controversy surrounding the ripoff. Henrik duly pointed AoW out to me, I gave it a quick glance, and just played on. It took the PBEM's disaster, an email from Exile, and my reading several relevant threads here to make me realize what was really going on.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that; IMO the cheating incident and the big debate after academia brought up the other game have given the game a sense of futility that wasn't there before.
