I do not want any veto on who joins and who does not, except... I will return to this in a bit.
re flash, I knew exactly who he was. I knew he was exactly the type who might go totally off the wall if he were not addressed ASAP. That is why I replied to his PM the way I did.
Returning to the issue of veto, I propose that any new member must pass a poll, with a twist. Many Some groups use an interesting approach known as the black ball. In these groups when a membership issue is voted on it is done so with a box containing marbles. There are many white balls and a few black. Each member in turn reaches into the box and deposits a ball into a third compartment. When each has done so, the contents of the third compartment are examined by all. If the deposited balls are all white, the applicant is accepted. If there is a single black ball, he or she is rejected.
That sort of system works with a small number of people. It ensures that no one is forced to coexist with someone completely anathema to them. It does require that people be reasonable and not petty with their choices.
If we do this, then we would post a poll with White, Black, Abstain as the only options. A single Black vote would deny the application. Abstain would have no effect. People granted admission would see the forum and see the number of voters. People denied would never see it.

NYE, that system is cool for me, however it does mean unanimity, which might be hard to reach in a larger group... maybe adjusting it so that 1 black ball is accepted, but not more then that.
As to ManicStarSeed; I don't know him, and thus won't vote for nor against him. But, there is a need for more experienced demogame players right now, so if he comes from that side...
Flash is a different story, after all of this I went back and checked upon what he has posted over the past few months... he would receive a black ball from me. It's a pity he reacts the way he does, and I somewhat sympathise he can't join the group of AU people (as one of the few things he did was post in those threads), but really, he is not a group player, a loose cannon like the British would say.
I see no reason why we would need to provide lenghty explanations on the general board to explain us taking on another member, however, the announcement should be done in style. But if MSS has applied, is here to fill a specific post (that of demogamer), and is accepted by all members that is in no way contradictory to what we said before. I don't recall we said membership was closed, it's just not automatic anymore. This is not some elitist thing of ours, so if somebody takes it that way I will defend (diplomatically) us.
BTW: one of the worst things we could do now is that everyone responds to a single message: if there is one message, it should at most receive 2 replies. Otherwise we risk making things worse ourselves, instead of letting other teams do that.

no. we have been emailing the saves around. I probably have the last 50 or so turns, NYE probably has all. I don't have the current turn. Which do you want, you can be added to the email list for all future saves if you wish.
