Well this poll is untimely for us here in Europe because the game comes out in a week or so. They all sound interesting in their own way.

I have played all 3 Civs, and this past month played the most fun game ever as the Israelites. I know they are not in this list, but they are included in my mod (the City Version).

I think you guys should have all the civs on the PTW disk in this selection, including ones from the mods. Many of them have their own unique leader heads, Unique Units and really are no different than the ones that Firaxis made.

I've only played the Celts so far while I work on importing all the changes I made to my Civ3 .bic file into PTW. I keep starting games and going with the Celts....

I think the Scandanavians may end up being my favorite though. That early amphibious unit should be a lot of fun.

Have to throw in my lot with the Spanish here. The combination of religious and commercial is very conducive to imperial expansion, and the UU is nicely timed.
Plus, conquistadors make a very cool unit -- I love the animation, particularly little Toto barking as Don Quixote fights!

Further thoughts: The Carthaginians offer wonderful traits, but ancient era UUs invite premature golden ages -- particularly when, as spearmen replacements, they are so difficult to avoid committing to battle.
Ottomons are fun, and those Sipahi are wickedly effective on the battlefield.
Koreans are challenging to play, especially because of their neighbors. I've played several games in which I've been checked by combined Mongol/Japanese aggression.

If you turn off cultural link then it doesnt matter

Also, dont forget china, they can get a lil lethal with those rider with militaristic trait. Wait a min all the far east asian civ except korea's got the mil trait! talk about some early war hot spot!

Carths are great. Its my #1 choice for playing with my dorm mates. But for real MP agst humans I still would stick to Aztecs
but if I were to choose a PTW Civ itd be

Arabs and Vikings

Viking is self explanatory because of mil/exp trait + UU that is ridiculously powerful at attacking but as for arabs, they have a good trait (rel/exp) and a UU that resembles CHinese rider (4/3/3) with one less defensive point but cheaper. Now in some cases I PREFER to have one less defensive point. It's annoying when you just captured a city and someone attacks you, a Elite Knight defends over a veteran pikemen that I can afford to lose. So I gladly would take -10 shield for -1 defense.

As for celts i understand the idea of balancing making a non-retreating unit retreable, but remember, aztecs and zulus get them for no additional penalty. (aztecs rule!) +20 shield i think is too much.

mongols, i prefer the arab ansar over keshik right now, they are exactly the same except diff of +1 move vs treat mountain as grassland.

Depends on the game. For Single Player on a huge map the Ottomans rock since wars can usually be avoided in the early game and the Sipahi can trigger Golden Age while taking out size twelve cities defended by riflemen with few losses. Sipahi armies do well against infantry and sometimes you want that third movement point even after the tanks arrive.

Unless the commercial trait has been modified in PtW then I'd have to say, as a de facto matter in the game, it is useless. All it does is raise your max number of cities by 1 which has a very, very small impact on the actual curroption rate in the game.

Therefor I'll vote for the Celts. There combo of traits and a fast moving early UU simply make them a more powerful civ in this game then the Spainards.

I must say I have played with the celts and they PWN. I have yet to try out the other civs. I think they need to beef up the mongol civ to allow keshik to ignore movement penalties for hills.
