I think the nature of DEI is one where most of the faction has similar views. This certainly isn't the case with DSE, DIA or possibly DoR. And if there is less done on polls (ie. only on important decisions) then it would make more difference (and perhaps more candidates).

I think one reason more of the less vocal people aren't running is they think they won't get elected. We have a few 'big-hitters' that are almost certain to get elected, no matter who they're up against (bar each other). I think with the system I've said above, with each candidate having the support of a party, more people would be prepared to run.

What we need is viewpoints in opposition, an opposition party that actually wants to do things differently (the Fundamentalist Faction was a good example of this in the early year, but they’ve since died away). The current political atmosphere, though calm, is rather uninteresting.

Very true. At the moment the only discussion of much merit is between FM advocates and either STEP or the CCCP, and those seem to be dying.

I'm not sure there are that many people here anymore to be nominated

This was the case (to some extent) earlier, I attempted to organize the CDC in that manner where the CDC would attempt to get candidates for all the positions (or as many as we could), the candidates from the CDC would not be in competition and would receive the backing of the CDC. Unfortunately, as we know well the way of the parties died long ago, resurrecting them would be difficult (though not impossible).

I would agree, there was much more discussion earlier on when we did have political parties; but I think the lack of discussion has more to do with lack of activity than it does with political parties per se. Also political parties are great for role-playing (another merit perhaps warranting their return).

Sadly yes.

Where have some of the people gone? Even when I started (but a few weeks ago) there were at least 20 or 30 people voting and occasionally posting. Would bringing back parties get more people involved? Possibly not in the same sense as before, but having fewer parties based on SE choices, or suchlike?

That’s a good question, I wish I could answer but I’ve been away for a while and when I got back things were like this; the political parties were largely inactive, voter turnout is at all time lows (just take a look at the recent elections, there are approximately 10 people voting), and both discussion about policy and role-play are down to some degree. I think bringing back parties (if it can be done) would be a good idea since there was much more active involvement before, and things were more interesting when we had political intrigue such as at the very start with the P4, CDC, ACE, etc.

Well whatever the solution to the problem of low participation is, we need to at least try something out to solve this problem.

Tired of ads?

Yes. Although with elections only having been open a day, we haven't seen everyone yet. There are more than 10 people still active here.

Hopefully with time the turnout improves.

Myeh. Parties had their uses in terms of livening things up. But the factional crossfire got pretty nasty at times; that was the reason I walked, and I'm not about to forget that.

That might have been slightly more effective had you got your spelling right.
