It's logical in that it follows the same system used by every other measurement, ie. has the largest unit first, and the fastest incrementing unit last.

How to say it out loud: nolltvå elva tjunie.

logical schmogical. most people are aware of what year it is and are more interested in knowing the day of the month, so day-month-year makes more sense (at least to me it does)

well but how would I know if that's a date or your frickin phone number?

Most people are interested in the day, as the month changes very rarely. It is a worry if you don't realize what month it is.

But it's still easy to spot.

If it's in the format of:
November 28, 2002.
It's the first number.

If it's in the MM-DD-YY format, then it's the middle number between the characters.
Same with MM/DD/YY.

The year should go at the back because most of the time I don't even use it. Optional stuff should be at the end so it can be not included and not screw anything up.

The month should go first, since in civilized countries it's pronounced "November 28th" and not "28 November".

What about the extra precision of decimal places? They go at the end.

I always like reading from the same spot all the time. The first will always be the month, the second will always be the day, and if there's a third it's the year. woee.

No, I'm saying that a lot of time the extra decimals are left off.

IE: 1.00.

We can leave it off sometimes to get 1.

In dates, we have 11-29-02.

We can leave it off and get 11-29.

It's consistent.

This way we always start at the same place, the last bit is just optional.

No, in Australia we say either.
November 28th or 28th November. And we have the advantage of grouping all the optional bits of data at the end, so if someone asks the date, we can say the 28th, rather than the longer 28th of November, 2002.
Much better than putting the most important, non-optional part of the date in the middle.

A much better format (and incidentally the one I use) is 29/11-02 which is easily read as 29th of november 2002.

No, it's easily read as 29 divided by 11 minus 2. It's also easily read as 2029, November 2nd.

Very seldom will someone actually just write "28th" when dating a paper, it'll at the very least be "November 28th".

Probably because there's no Civ2 style, even in the main Civ2 section.
