There's nothing you CAN'T sing when properly motivated...

"Okay children gather around, now since Eric Cartman can't seem to remember the words to 'Oh Holy Night', we're going to use a little shock-therapy. I'm going to give one of you children this cattle-prod and if Eric forgets any words, just shock him a little, m'kay? Who wants the cattle-prod?"
*Class erupts with eager participants...*
"Here you go Kyle, why don't you take it?"
"Sweet!"
*Eric, of course, sings badly...*
"OK Eric, now we're going to do the French words..."
"WHAT!?!?!"

Alright, I'm going to step into this.

You do realize that "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" was Ms. Angelou's autobiographical story of what it like growing up black in pre-civil rights movement America don't you? Have you no sense of shame or decency? Why can't you go parody someone else's autobiography?

Nope, all I knew was the title of the book, not its contents (nor its author, for that matter). I'd say that it's going more than a bit overboard to call me indecent just for knowing the title of a book and having it strike my fancy (even if I had happened to have read its contents).

I'd hardly call this a parody of her autobiography, seeing as how the only thing being "parodied" was the title -- something usually has to be much more substantive in order to count as a parody. That's like saying that I'm parodying The Bell Jar by saying something like "The Bell Jar sure does hold a lot of bells hardy har har" and then jerking your knee by calling me indecent ("You heartless bastard, don't you know that Plath killed herself? There can be no greater crime than defiling the title of a serious book!"). Fer Crissakes, I didn't even say anything like "Maya Angelou sure is an inferior human being," or even "Maya Angelou sure is a lousy poet" -- you'll note that I never even mentioned her name up until now.

Way to ruin a perfectly good spam thread, Doc.

I had to read that dang book. Hated it. Classmate suggested lighter fluid as to "why the cage bird sings", but turns out it's one of those Color Purpleesque books.

Didn't like that book. Not at all. Ranks right up there with Return to Manzanar, which wouldn't have been a bad book if I hadn't read it six times over the course of my epublic education career.

AHA! But you DO know the author. You just said you did, and I never said MAYA Angelou worte it. Furthermore you know that she's a poet, a fact which I never mentioned. If you DIDN'T know who the author was then you wouldn't have known that it was Maya, and not Betty, or Mary or Sue! Furthermore you KNOW PERFECTLY WELL what "The Bell Jar" was about. It's obvious that you are guilty of knowledge aforethought. You are therefore utterly responsible for your actions. You can't hide your perfidious slanders from me. I'm wise to you, you heartless bastard. Since Mark, Ming and MTG have become inexplicably lax it is therefore incumbent upon me to suck the joy right out of this thread. I'm a professional you know.

Ah hell, it's impossible for me to post a response to that without first knowing whether you're being serious or facetious. I'm guessing the latter, in which case you ought to be soundly spanked for not having used smilies in the first place.
