ME uses DOS, but I warn you, ME screws up and corrupts system files like there is no tomorrow. Of course, ME startup times are the fastest in the windows family.

ME really screwed up my dad's Sony Laptop. It was so corrupted, after starting up ME, blue screens would come up. He installed 2k Pro on it, and all the problems disappeared completely.

XP Pro as the OS that works very well and I love it. Linux for much of the programming stuff and other work I do - just an excellent OS, even though it lacks Dreamweaver.

I use Windows 98SE. 95 doesn't work. 3.1 is too incompatible. ME is too unstable. 2K is too expensive. XP is too incompatible and unstable.

Blah, Win98SE 4eva!! I have WinXP on my laptop and i don't like it at all!!

In explorer i want to set my files in a list, but when i go to another folder, it's set to those horrible huge pictograms again (i hate that!!)

I am a WinXP noob though... but i do like the simpler win98SE layout more than the XP... I don't care about blue screens, just click enter, ctrl+alt+del the foul prog and go on with yer "comping"

I haven't had that many problems with 98. With XP, the system kept crashing, startups were quick but getting to my desktop took literally 5+ minutes (I have NEVER had that happen with ANY OS. Well, maybe a mac.....)

NONE of my games would work. They either screwed up the monitor or simply refused to run (Yes I know of compatibility mode. That did not help).

Any of my other programs began to fall apart. IE couldn't function in XP, and neither could Netscape. Windows "Help" wouldn't work because for some reason Microsoft HTML decided to commit suicide, and that prevented me from "restoring" my system to when only my games were falling apart. MSN, Yahoo, Winamp, and Control Panel (!) ceased to function. The only game I could get to run on the computer was AoE:AoK.

This all happend within a space of 3 days. Within the first few days (1-2) I did a virus scan, and it came up with "clean". So pardon me if I'm slightly biased against XP. Let's just say I've had "bad experiences".

And don't even get me started on crappy Microsoft support......

I bet they were all using a beta versino of XP.

Tass, I have no idea what would cause your problems but something was obviously very very wrong.

Let me guess: You have a really crappy graphics card?

That would explain why most games wouldn't work and why it was unstable as all hell, it probably had REALLY crappy NT drivers...

As for this part:

I've never, ever, heard of anything of that sort before. As I said before, something was very very wrong and if you actually asked people here we probably could have troubleshooted it for you.

C'est la vie, I hope you're happy with Win98SE since everyone else I know would sure as hell would take XP over 98SE anyday.

Bingo.
Your problem isn't with Windows XP, but with your graphics card vendor for making bad drivers.
