What about someone to create a Battle of France scenario with these superb units?

LOL @ Darth, Palaiologos.
The first unit was what first came to my mind when I started this set. The others emerged from concomitant aesthetic considerations.

It was Captain Nemo who first proposed the creation of a Battle of France scenario, and I took up the idea myself after he retired from Civilization. Given the existence of all the necessary German units, the graphics task is virtually completed.

Alas, like most scenario makers, I find that my procrastination is a chronic malady, and with the end of my summer vacation and my raging teenage hormones, I can offer no prospects for a WW2 scenario in the near future; I would, however, be blissfully delighted if someone gave this task the effort it deserves.

Btw: Javier Arriaga aka jasev created a good Battle of France scenario called Drole de Guerre. You can find it in the Spanish Civilization Site

Thanks guys, I like being appreciated.

Jasev, I think you're referring to French WWI uniforms. According to my colorful history books, at the start of WWI, the poilu was outfitted in a dark-blue uniform with red trousers; this was later replaced by an entirely light-blue outfit. By 1939, French forces wore a uniform of similar design but olive in color. The design of my units comes from the illustrations in my book.

Thank you, I thought that they preserved the old light-blue uniform. It was a headache to research it because I couldn't find a colour photograph.

Is anyone willing to recolour the light tank on the left (made by Jim Panse I think) to the colour scheme used by the Sherman on the right? (by Nemo & Fairline) It's the perfect light tank for my Appeasement and Agression Scenario.

No, I don't have PSP - when I recolour units, I do it by hand with MS Paint and/or the FW editor. Needless to say, this is rather time consuming.

This Type 92 has already been recoloured from the original dark green. Where did my initials go? Only the tracks and part of the turret are from Nemo. Jim added the Japanese insignia and the tan, for his pacific scenario.

I think that's why I can never open your gifs/bmps that you've renamed You need to use a graphic program to save them in different formats.

Tanelorn has a point here - Jim Panse should have left Tanelorn's sig on the graphic.

Oh, i already knew that actually.

It never really occured to me telling you about it though.
I suppose i should have.Hmmm........

And on the Jap tank issue: You gfx designers don't understand that KEEPING a sig on is the hard part. Every time you make a change via the MGE editor to the unit(a pixel gone astray or most ussually the shield placing) "triggers" the editor to place the unit gfx on a standard civ2 format background. It is really tedious to place the sig back manually, so a credits file is preffered.

And units have the habit of being posted so many times and in so many variations that the original sig is eventually lost.

Actually i purposelly reimport the whole units file via the editor to eliminate those "all purple" backgrounds so many designers use. They tend to cause gfx bugs when the units explore terrain and in some other minor instances.

oops, no offence intended Tanelorn. I took it from a compelation Jim put together, and when I saw that there were no initals on it I assumed it was by him. I'm sure he was going to credit you in the readme.

Sorry for all the inconvenience caused by this misunderstanding but I haven´t unsed this tank of you tanelorn. If I use a graphic which I haven´t drawn (which is quite often ) I leave the sigs where they belong, attached to the unit graphic.

You can have a look at this unit file to make this sure.

What problems? I've never noticed any graphic glitches myself when I use just the pink shade. I tend to get rid of the upper triangles of dark purple as it's too dark a shade to draw accurately against. I usually leave the lower ones to position the bottom of the unit accurately.

Anyone else noticed a problem?

Sometime when copying from a bmp file to a gif, you get odd pink shades due to the compression values and colour restrictions of gif formats.

But like fiarline, I just eliminate the upper purple triangles,
recopy the bottom ones from an existing similar format, and then add sigs where I can fit them.

Palaiologos: which glitches? The one where you get chevrons on the unit shield, or the tiles around the unit are briefly black, or another glitch?

The first of these is correctable by moving the unit shield further away from the right-hand border.

What is a "chevron"?

Yeah the black tiles is one that i am speaking about.
There is also a glitch where a "trace" of the unit's shield remains sometimes behind for a split second.

The 'trace' or chevron occurs with any unit whose shield is too close to the left or right edge as Panda says.

The red problem Tanelorn refers to is caused by using the palette index 252 red (R:255 G:0 B:0), which is reserved for the unique civ colour supposedly, although as Tanelorn says I only ever see a turquoise in-game. Just replace the 255 reds in a unit with palette 96 and re-load the civ palette.
