Damn straight. Ontario is getting screwed in Canada. We have 38% of Canada's population, the part that hasn't atrophied into worthless drones like the Prairies and the Maritimes, but we only control a mere 33% of the Federal government. It sounds to me as though we are getting shafted by the CCRAP-voting Westerners and the unemployable Easterners.

5% Difference. Boo hoo. The only reason that places like the praries and the maritimes are worthless is because of the god awful Ontario-centric Liberal (capital L liberal) government we've had for the past, I don't know, 70 odd years. I think this government needs to spread out its interests a little further beyond the GTA (greater toronto area) for a change.

Thats one of the reasons I support states rights and don't like PR. In the US, you don't have economic cestpools like you do here in Canada. Why? because states can control their own matters and aren't bullied by majority mobs from California, NY and Texas.

If you love socialism so much, why don't you come to Canada and see how great it works.

Its only a border away...

I think you're talking about Ochlocracy, the "reign of the rabble". Maybe that's how it would turn out in countries with a low understanding of what Democracy is. It is NOT only the right to vote and then getting a dictatorship of the majority who can do whatever they want with the rest. Democracy by definition includes rights for the minorities so they can become majorities in time.

And JCC: At first, Canada seems to be doing quite well and secondly it's as far from Socialism as you can be (well, not taking into account the capitalistic extremists in the US)

I don't necessarily see that as a terrible thing but it does lead to an ongoing situation where a minority of the population elect a majority of the Senate.

I guess it all depends if you place any value on having some form of effective regional representation. If the Senate were going to be purely based on population, you may as well just abolish it since in theory it should just mirror the House

Good point, and exactly the reasoning behind our constitution on this matter.

And the vast majority are neither rich nor poor. My parents both grew up poor, but they changed their lives through education and work. Imagine, they both dreamed about what sort of job they would like to do, and then made it a reality. So yea, I'd call it doing what you want for a living if you are capable of doing the job.

Sink. Take a dive into the ocean, for all that I care.

Jon's odd poll options don't look bad though.

Yeah sure. Take 99% of the bangladeshan population. Ask them if they want to make a living, move 30 years into the future and check how many who actually made it. Fair isīnt it?

I'm convinced that supporters of States' Rights simply want less centralized power so they can enact their own laws and policies that the entire nation would never enact because they're bad (slavery, segregation, prayer in schools, etc).
