I liked Led Zep since I can remember.
I'd recommend Led Zep II as starting album. Babe I'm gonna leave you is also a great song.

Er, well. "Rock" apparently means a different thing to me and to everyone else. I mean, I don't mid a good old Henrixy lickout like, say, "Maggot Brain" by The Funkadelic, but surely the point of Rock is to bounce around the room a bit to some lovely meaty sounds? If you just want clever ****ing guitars go listen to Television or something.
Now, tooth-sinkable and up-and-jump riff-happy is a tricky combo. The entire Stooges album "Fun House" is a good start. If you just want something to pull you along, how about, say, "Fish Fry" by Big Black, "The Accelerator" by Primal Scream and "Magnetic City" by Silverbullit?

Scabby is "unconventional"
but even he can accept some of the led zep songs (not the boring ones) rock!
of course there are other things too more modern. that "rock" without you having to endure endless solos but sometimes they are also part of the charm

Do you remember an old song called "Alright Now"? It was by a band called Free. It is on an album called Fire and Water (see http://www.artistdirect.com/store/a...,,88711,00.html)
That album definitely rocks. I played it until the cassette stretched and broke. Then I sticky taped the cassette together again. Always played at high volume. Very much the same vibe as "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You."
If I have to pick out songs, I'd suggest "Heavy Load" first, but I could have picked any song on that album.
As for Led Zep:
Stay away from anything after Houses of the Holy album. If you're looking for songs that "rock", try LZ 1,2 and 4 first. Then see how far hooked you are before getting 3, SongRemainsSame and Houses of Holy. By this stage, these last three will probably become your favourites. I don't really recommend Presence, Phys Graffiti or Coda.

The Foo Fighters most recent album contains some of the best rock songs I have ever heard.
Other groups I'd recommend are Audioslave (made up out of Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and Rage against the Machine) whose single sounds like Zep and rocks like a bastard and Queen of the Stone Age who represent everything proper rock is about.
Another classic is obviously Nirvana - Nevermind (though the greatest hits album is fine too).

Doors: Five to One - this is a good rocking one from the doors. Light my fire is also good- if you like organs.
Steve Miller Band- they had some good ones as well.
Dio- Try songs like Holy Diver, don't talk to strangers, rainbow in the dark, and last in line
Ozzy osbourne- crazy train, I don't know, mr. crawley to start with.
CCR. too many to choose from- lets see- born on the bayou, house of the rising sun, suie q, run through the jungle
If you like something different try Jethro Tull. But don't listen to them if you don't like flutes though
Van Halen- yeah they are very overplayed. But try mean streets or change for something different. And hot for teacher always rocks.
OK this is a weird one. Fly me Courageous by Drivin n Cryin. Yeah they weren't that good a band, but I love this song.
AC/DC- so many old ones to choose from. For those about to rock, hells bells, dirty deeds, TNT, hell ain't a bad place to be, jailbreak, let there be rock, sin city,
B-52's- rock lobster. I love this song- and it does rock in a campy sort of way
Bad Company- rock and roll fantasy
Black Sabbath- so many to choose from. Ozzy years only. paranoid is a good album to start from. Heaven and Hell is decent from Ronnie's years.
Boston- foreplay/long time
candlebox- you, far behind
cream- crossroads, white room, sunshine of your love
edgar winter group- frankenstein
heart- baracuda, straight on
Iron butterfly- inna godda da vida (kind of a Jim morrison rip off- and a one hit wonder at that, but I still like this song)
iron maiden, running free, killers, wrathchild, ghenghis khan, prowler- these are all their older ones.
jefferson airplane- white rabbit
kansas- carry on wayward son
motorhead- ace of spades
steve miller band- keep on rockin' me, joker,

Brand New Cadillac and I Fought the Law: The Clash, these versions will rock your face off.
Rage Against the Machine have a lot of good hard rocking songs.
Frank Zappa: One Size Fits All - the entire album rocks, but especially Pajama People and San Bernadino. Joe's Garage rocks hard too.
Screaming Trees: unjustly ignored grunge band, I recommend Invisible Lantern
David Bowie: Width of a Circle. Albums: Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars and more recently Outside and Earthling
Butthole Surfers: PSY, Hairway to Steven and many more.
Yes: Fragile, Close to the Edge and The Yes Album. The Bill Bruford days are especially good.
If you like what I posted. I'll suggest some others.
