as for the Hoover Dam. I'll give you some more info. They banned the use of big trucks accross the dam. They now have to drive south through Laughlin. I don't know if there are any exceptions to this though.

When we drove back from Arizona last October we had to go through a checkpoint. Some people think that is a waste of resources. But really I think the checkpoints and banned use of trucks is sufficient deterrant to using a vehicle on the dam. And the dam is too difficult to hit with a large jetliner (I was able to do it with a small stunt plane on microsoft flight simulator ) due to the canyons involved. You can come in from the lake side, but much of the dam is covered by water on that side. It would take good flying, but I suppose it is possible...

Now ryder/U-haul trucks still can pass over the dam. I think some of them are stopped at the checkpoint. I'm not sure if they do any kind of search. I htink back to Oklahoma City. But I really don't think a ryder truck filled with fuel oil and ammonium nitrate can do that much damage when detonated on top of the damn. Much of the blast will go in other directions (up, forward, back, side to side), and only a certain amount will be directed downward. They may weaken it, but I can't see it failing outright.

I went to the airport the other day, A formidable man with a metal detector which looked like a erotic-@$$ spanking tool stood by and prevented my entrance. I reckon a terrorist will react in a totally opposite way than yours. The driver probably will step on the gas, run over whoever is in the way, and charge through the checkpoint.

If they are going to sabotage, they surely would have scout out the area and make plans accordingly.

well good point I suppose. It would work if they had an alarm or radio. But even if a terrorist did storm through the checkpoint, nobody could do anything about it. It would take ages to get anyone to the dam except maybe an old boulder city police officer
