I see a PR campaign for this. We can turn this into a chat. Lord Togas or an appointed other will flip a coin or use some other random means to determine the outcomes of the duel.

We can invite foreign dignitaries and all feast on squid until one man succumbs from battle. It'll be a gala affair...

Ahem, I believe the need for a duel has been averted, Señor ruby_maser. Let us not re-ignite the conflict, for both are from families that have served Spain well, and I am loath to see such bloodlines end.

Put an end to popups!

I, Thag, a lowly slave of Master Mitchell (not to be confused with Thug, whom Master told stories of when I was but a lad, about how Thug had the strength of 10 men and the intelligence of a free citizen, and how loyal he was, and how Señor Calamari's father killed him, and so on), wish to speak if it is no problem.

I am only a slave, and do not know well of the system for this sort of thing, but I must ask you: What are the charges, and why would Señor Hernan want to make more enemies by implicating Ninot as leaving when he knew that there were two who looked like Ninot and one (Ninot) was a respectable citizen while the other (Rinot) was a slave. Why would Señor Ninot want to run off as such?

Also, I kindly ask another question. If Master Mitchell would allow me, can I read the Canon Laws and such, Assistant High Priest Hernan? These matters confuse me some bit, and I request assistance in understanding them. Master already gives us a 4-hour break every day to "be left to [our] own devices." (This is in addition to the standard 8 hours of sleep.) Master is kind to us like that, letting us have breaks and stuff.

Wow. WOW. I, nor probably Togas Himself, didn't know how much the Watcher watched you.

Not that I would ever denounce Grand Despot Togas, Lord of the Light of the Infinite Wisdom, by the Grace of the Spirits anyways.

(And BTW, I directed Thag to the court case thread for the charges. Thag called them all ridiculous. I agree with 'em. Señor Ninot is a fine upstanding citizen, never capable of doing treasonous acts.)

For all the spirits!

I am several weeks out overseeing the progress of the slaves connecting Pamplona with the new city and when I come back to Madrid I learn about that trial!

These despicable chineese warriors are wandering through our lands without problem and we are dedicated to judge our own people? Ninot comes from a very important and respectable family. His father (or was he his grandfather?) was even Governor of Madrid. They have proven their loyalty. If the civ from the north have the suspect that we are dividid they will no doubt attack us!

What we should do is arrest these damn chineese warriors and hang them, without any trial!

Alright, then.

I shall not back down, however. My family honor has been impuned, and unless official action is taken, or a retraction of statements is made by the besmircher, I will fight the duel with him, and may the gods bless my hand for this battle.

Secondly, this is not a gala affair. It is a private matter between two men that must be solved on the field of glory.

Thirdly, Senor Thag is a slave. He cannot read the Sacred Scrolls or Canon Law. The thane lord, Senor Mitchell, may. But let him know, should he take the Law for granted, or offend the gods with misuse of it, the gods will not be pleased.

Senor Ninot, if you want to deal with this man, Noberto Rinot yourself, I hand him over to your torturer, Mr. Paine. If he is quite finished writing 'The Rights of Man' and other such nonsense, he may want to deal with this thief, scallywag, and clothes copier personally.

As for enemies, I seek none. It is they who seek me, and I am ready to fight them, to win the losing battle. May the gods go with me, I am old, and thus it is not a fair battle, but I will see honor done my family. Indeed, whomever wins, the honor is mine alone.

I fight the good fight, Senor Ninot. Do you?

I retract NO statements. I will fight the propper fight, and rid you of your egotestical head, along with other things.

I do not care to hear if you are old or not. If you were anything better than a coward, you wouldnt hide behind so many frailties. And that you should ask for the gods blessing is laughable. the Octupus god LAUGHS at your indescent squid dealing, and will surely guide me to smite you.

And most importantly, you will not have honor. As I am innocent of the crimes I am accused of, I still have honor. And that honor will not be lost because your fat, immovable corpse will fill a street and a half of Madrid, once I am done with it.

Fools have no honor, young man. I am not a fool. I keep my honor. Do you?

It is unclear to me the root of your insane hatred towards my family. I would dismiss it as sheer jealous folly and move on. It has been made clear to me from friends and certain members of government that a duel is the last thing they want. Thus, I shall relent.

Consider yourself lucky. I will show mercy. I do not kill children, or even those who decide to act like them.

And you, sir, are as ignorant as a child, like a youth who throws his toys about his room when he is angry for want of an intelligent response.

I have offered you my peace, and for no reason you refuse it. I see know reason why on earth any statement of yours should be, in future, be taken seriously by myself in any context whatsoever.

To my mind, you prove yourself to have the petty mind of a child, and you can't get out of that. Spain mourns for the loss of a promising mind.

Hernan, i dont give two squids (shudder) what your mind posseses, if anything at all. That you think I am a child doesnt disturb me at all.

You have offered me peace. But only after offering Davout testimony that i was leaving town. You offer me peace now, but down the line, you will offer a knife to my back again. That I cannot allow.

You have insulted me.

But Spain does not mourn me. I work for Spain, and it reaps the benefits. However, Spain does cringe when you wake up every morning.

Young man, I do not think you understood me. You are unworthy of any dignified response.

Henceforth, whatever you say I will ignore. It matters not the scattered opinions you put forward, and I will not treat your words as worthy of any response, for surely they are not. To my mind, for now, you do not exist. Do not expect me to respond to your babbling ever again, young man, for children are better seen and not heard.

You will plug your ears and listen to your own breezy headed thoughts, before you will do an honorable thing.

I am glad you chose to ignore me. Now if only I could so expertisely choose to plug my ears, and sing:

SPLUUUHSH! The rather disgusting contents of a chamber pot [high-quality squid was had for lunch ] pour out oh-so-near the two duelists, but just far enough away not to touch them or their clothes.

A window opens. Maria Pikesfan looks out:

--DO YOU MIND! I’m trying to teach some etiquette here and can’t hear myself think! Would you two little boys, no I mean big boys go somewhere else? I expect better from my 12-year-old nephew Lluís! And next time I won’t miss.

And just making the whole thing even more ridiculous, a frighteningly large pair of buttocks (not belonging, by the way, to anyone in the Pikesfan clan, but to some rather low-class neighbours who, even if they could afford etiquette classes would not even understand why such are necessary, and hence are a constant annoyance to the Pikesfans) appear out the upper story window of the residence across the street, and make the traditional noise, and not quietly either.

Squawks a woman’s voice: “I heard that! Go outside next time! And don’t eat your squid so fast and you won’t have to go outside!”
Grunts a man’s: “What do you mean, you heard that, woman! You can’t have heard that, there was nothing to hear! Anyway, there was so much noise outside with those two arguing you couldn’t have heard nowt!”
The woman’s: “They stopped.”
The man’s: “Oh. I hope it was two of those foofarahs who keep visiting that dangfool school across the street taught by those dangfool people who think they’re so high and mighty.”
The buttocks disappear and the window closes.

Señors Ninot and Calamari,

You're supposed to duel with weapons, not just continue sparring with words

[ooc]

This isn't the Monkey Island game series... you don't win the fight by making the better insults

[/ooc]

Since Señor Calamari was the challenger and Señor Ninot is the one accepting the duel, Señor Ninot has the choice of weapons.

Make your choice.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Senor Clemente, I refuse to make duel with this man, now. I have no more business to do with him. I've satisfied myself that he is too childish to be taken seriously, and I will not murder so pitiful an individual.

Secondly, I also refuse because of the inane atmosphere with which this whole situation is dealt with. This is no gala affair. This is, or was, a private matter. A duel is an honorable thing. Duelists are not gladiators, they are not entertainers. It is a private affair.

I am, as I said, satisfied that Senor Ninot is too simple and childlike to understand the nature of what he was saying. I will forgive him this, like an elderly man forgives a toddler who steps on his foot and bangs at his knees without understanding that he is simply being obnoxious.

Arnelos, see, we must all be fools

Hernan challenged me to a duel, thinking I would not accept.

Now that I have, it is not in his interests.

He never intended to get off his squid-bought stool. He rather just keep his closed-mind and his plush job.

Ah, young man, you have learned grammar, have you not? Splendid thing...Writing brought it too us. Rather sweet chaps, those wise men, to thing of how we should phrase things so that they are understandable.

Why then, do you suggest that I formally challenged you to a duel when I never did?

Take a look. "If you were any part of a man [sorry for that...blood was up], I'd challenge you to a duel." However, I did not officially do so.

However, if you want a chance to butcher an old man, if that reeeeally pleases you, feel free to sneak up on a dark and stormy night, or just challenge me upright.

Yet, I don't see the need for a duel, nor, I think, do you. So let us drop it and be peaceable men. I shall not trouble you, if you do not trouble me. So I have spoken.

Got spare money?

In the thread, GeneralTacticus commented about the need for this to go quickly.

When we release it as a PR event we can talk about how long and delayed it was through all of the witnesses who were (if Ninot wins) helping a good friend or some crap like that or (if Ninot loses) involved in such a vast conspiracy to overthrow Grand Despot Togas.
