Thanks to those who brought back such images. Great memories!

The Newspaper banner reminds me of the old Railroad Tycoon screens. I've been a "Sid" fan a long time and he always seems to find a way to make me lose sleep at my PC.

Put an end to popups!

I still remember the music too... Of course the sound quality was crap (even on an Amiga at this time ) but Civ 1's music were probably the best of the series.

Did your Amiga version randomly omit graphics?

Like the city view, which never seemed to work on mine.

Perhaps it was a Chip-RAM thing.

Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

Man, memories. If only I had experienced them myself .
Does anyone know if Civ1 is available as abandonware? If so, I'd really like to try this thing out. I really wanna see what this amazing city view is like.

"In the beginning, the world was without form, and void..."
- from the intro to Civilization I
======
If you go to this page:http://www.civ3.com/legacy2.cfm
You will find some music of Civ I
======

Hey it's MicroProse who released CIV I
Look at the minimum specs:
** System Requirements **
MS-DOS or Windows
Any PC or Pentium system
640k of RAM or more
3.5 MB of disk space
Tandy, EGA, VGA or SVGA graphics
============
Any PC... even 286 do the job)
640k of tam
.... tandy, ega, vga and svga... I remember my first game in SVGA with the Vesa Drivers, it was links386... it was looking so great... I've never tought a game in 800x600 can look not so great... cause now If I play in 800x600... it's not so beautiful!

===
Switch:
oh man... abandonware.... company are just so afraid to make some old games free... Maxis transform SimCity Classics to a freeware, but we just have the right to play the game online...
I've see 3D Realms "freewared" some very old games...like commander keen, and maybe duke nukem 1.

... and I dont know if Civ I can be bought or are freeware... he doesn't have any info on the microprose or firaxis page!

Au revoir

I disabled city view as well. If not, every time you built something (except units) it loaded it up. This took about 30 seconds and there's only so many times you can look at this. So if you've got an empire with even 10 cities and you build a granary in each it's a long time just to sit there and watch it load.
So, no, but I never used city view.

I seem to remember it being on one of the pack-in disks with PC Gamer a year or so ago.
