I eat this kind of wheat with some nutty stuff in it. Forget what it's called, but it's great for sandwiches.

Thank you Google:

quote:
It was during the 1870 German French War when the French were defeated by a German-Russian military alliance. Paris had fallen to the enemy, and the enemy did not like to eat French bread. So some Germans found a bakery and instructed the owner how to bake the heavy dark German-type bread. When they went to collect their newly baked bread, the French baker said scornfully: "Here! I baked your bread. But tell me? how can you eat that stuff? It's only good for my horse Nicole to eat." That phrase 'good for Nicole' in French is: 'bon pour Nicole' and the Teutonic pronunciation of the word gave us the word 'pumpernickel.'

http://www.ladyflame-thepenismighti...ordOrigins.html

The 'bour pon Nicole' origin is also backed by another webpage.

Anything that's not generic sliced wheat bread is good by me.

i.e. Sliced white bread is fine, and so is high-quality whole wheat stuff.

Sliced whole wheat bread tastes like cardboard.

The best is, of course, bakery-fresh baguettes or other french-style breads.

The question is, what did you have to drink tonight?

The best bread is fresh-out-of-the-oven sourdough bread. Especially the sourdough bread in the bay area.

I'm referring to the cheapest bread you can buy.

If it's white bread, it's edible (and even enjoyable, if toasted)

If it's brown bread it tastes like ****.

Because it keeps body and soul together?

And because fried egg and tomato sandwiches on toasted white bread with a bit of salt&pepper are delicious.

Only on tuna is it even vaguely acceptable (half tablespoon for one can)

On sandwiches it's just plain disgusting. Why ruin the taste of fresh meat, cheese and vegetables with ****ing rotten eggs and spoiled milk?

****ing gross.

A couple of times I've ordered club sandwiches and forgotten to tell them to hold the mayo.

I could barely finish them.
