Howdy all!
Well, as my last tournament game (4) was coming to a close, lightning struck my damn house and toasted my brand new laptop... NOT HAPPY!
So I never got to submit my game, or even restart it for a while... ah well, it happens.
Took me a while, but I'm internet and CTP2 capable again, and ready to take on tournament 5! Just a fluke that one started recently... haven't been to the Apolyton forums or site for a number of months now...
Anyways, it'll be good to play MedMod for the first time. I've started the game already and enjoying all the new things - managed to slaughter off the Chinese early as they were giving me some minor trouble. Immediately turned on the Greens which was a bit of wishful thinking... didn't realise they had Cannons... Doh!
I'm going for the quickest bloodlust victory I can, which seems quite foreign to me as I'm not usually out to destroy everything that exists.
Good to see a lot of old faces here - or names rather... - be great to go into competition against you all again!
Good luck all,
Shadow

Hey Loc,
I've had a thought for another tournament in the future, and figured I'd voice it to you here so others could have their say.
Personally I prefer to have a high-tech military, the threat of nuclear war, eco-rangers, nuclear subs and carriers everywhere, etc... in short, I prefer the last half of the game. So sometimes I'll start a MP game where I can advance the starting sciences easily and add in a heap of settlers, then restart in SP mode.
This allows me to go straight into building machine-gunners, etc.
Would this be worth a try in a tournament?
Are any other players interested in this type of game where technology reins supreme even in the beginnings of the game?
Thoughts anyone...?

Absolutely. However, I've always preferred modern to "space age or nano/future age" so maybe the WAW mod would be a good choice. Either way Shadow, I think that's a great idea.

What's this WAW you guys are talking about?
Hang on, I'll try a search...
Got my game to work!
Had one previous save that went WAAAY back... so had to reply a large part, but it only took a few hours to complete the game.
So I'm playing away happily, and I suddenly found myself with nuclear weapons capabilities... so, I used them! I changed virtually all build lists to nukes, made sure all variables were geared to max production, and got to a point where I was churning out one new nuke per round.
As soon as one was made, it was launched or transported to the war zone.
I had a lot of new civs keep starting up which didn't help things... had to send quite a few warheads around the planet 'mopping up'.
So, in the end I won by bloodlust... with a bunch of terrible polution to show for it.
Final save game is attached. The final city (Persian I think) has just had a few nukes pumped into it, and there's a tank and rifleman standing by to take the city and take control of the world!

Aias,
I had the same problem. It caused by the "pictures" folder unziping to the wrong folder. In my case it went to the "call to power 2" folder. You need to move it to the ........"ctp2_data\default\graphics\pictures.

Attached, hopefully, is my completed game. Just advance the 12 stack of troops into Delhi. I went for the early completion date, and was able to finish by 1000BC. The key to an early completion in Med Mod is to attack as soon as possible, as then the AI's do not expand their empire much at all, which means you only have to take 3 or 4 cities per empire. Also I got lucky and got the elite Zulu guys, which move 2 spaces per turn, which really speeds things up.

Aias,
Sorry about that, I left out a crucial step. When you first find the "pictures" file (should be in the main Call To Power 2 folder), you have to open it, before you move it, as ther are a number of other files in there also. I think when you open it it then shows the "ctp" file. Just keep opening files until you get down to another file titled "pictures" It's this second pictures file that you need to move.

HuangShang,
You don't always get the "elite" troops, even if you have developed all the necessary science items. If an AI beats you and gets a certain elite item, you will not then get that particular one. Also, even if you are the first to qualify for a certain one, there is a fixed (but unknown to me) probablity of your getting it, rather than a certainty

HuangShang,
Not unusual. I've played 4 MedMod games and in one game I didn't get any elite forces in any age. In only one game did I get more than one, even though I was usually ahead in Science

I guess we'd have to wait for the glorious leader to churn out the results of this tourny before we start a new one. If enough people are interested this time we could use the new Call to Conquer mod for the next one?
