I like all food (and women), but if I have to choose one, I worship Italian food. It's great.

Last sunday I've been to an Italian restaurant and exceptionally didn't eat Lasagna, but 'Saltimbocca alla romana'.

What can I say, it was marvellous!
The cooks in my personal heaven (if a heathen like me had a chance to go there) have to be Italians! Maybe the women, too!

Oh I'm just drooling here!

I have a _great_ Italian restaurant near where I live (well 10 minute drive).. ooh it's excellent. It's expensive though, and service is good if you're masochist and like to be humiliated, but the food is excellent.

1. South-East Asian (Thai, Malaysian, Vietnamese etc.)
2. Turkish / Middle Eastern (Mmmm Pide!)
3. Japanese
4. South American

And finally Australian, YES, Australian. With our
abundance of fresh produce and influences from
everywhere on earth, modern australian cuisine
takes the best of everything to create a diverse
and truly global culinary experience.

We've come a long way from the days when
our diet was basically English.

Except we export most of our best beef.

I have tons of "Italian" Pizzarias nearby... well, that's what they call their Pizzarias, but I have yet to see an Italian (?) in any of those Pizzarias...

I'm surprised by the low score of France in this poll. While I admit French food isn't "superior" to some others, there is a huge variety and a rich cooking tradition, that makes good food.
How come nobody ever mentions it, despite France's reputation on the issue ?

French food is a little too 'rich'. And it is quite expensive, really. It's not something that can be eaten all the time, at least here in the States.

You want me to choose a single ethnic food? You monster!

Two cruisines to stand out for their freshness, simplicity, taste, and sheer overall goodness. For an elaborate, painfully perfect meal, Japanese is the way to go. A small bottle of sake, a bowl of miso soup, and a simple wooden platter of sushi, when properly done, is just too painfully exquisite to bear. It's like eating poetry.

For the hearty, filling simple food, Vietnamese is the best. A bowl of pho is the perfect blend of spice, noodles, meat, and vegetables. It's as far beyond a normal bowl of soup as the lifestyle of Bill Gates is beyond a New Guinea stone villager.

Imran is correct: in the US, French food is seen as food for the Rich, and usualy is served only in very expensive restaurants. Maybe here or there you see some Brasserie or a cafe, but their range of cooking is limited.

You never see some Mom and Pop French restaurant serving meals for under $20 a person.

I'm not sure what French food is, really. I know it's supposed to be great yet I can't think of a particular dish off the top of my head. Except frogs and snails, and that doesn't sound too yummy...
