I am mostly vegetarian, eating only fish (and not even shellfish).

I find myself eating a lot ealthier as a natural consequence of such a diet, as I am automatically not indulging in fast food joints, since they don't have much to appeal to me (except of course those cardboard-tasting attempts at veggie burgers).

I can honestly say I feel so much better not eating meats. I dunno how to describe it, except that I just feel "lighter." I don't feel too bogged down after eating meals, even large ones.

As an interesting side note, after being vegetarian for a while, I began to notice that meat-eaters...smell. There is a subtle little stench that accompanies you all. Puh.

I'm surprised there are many vegetarians in Germany at all, given that the traditional diet is perhaps one of the most meat-heavy in the world. Every German I've met has been an ardent carnivore...

I wonder where Osweld got the stereotype of Europeans being vegetarians. I mean, there's your usual percentage yeah, but the cruisines here have been using meat for a long, long time.

That's the smell of someone who you secretely know would have one less objection if they ever had to butcher and eat you.

I, for one, embrace my evolutionary heritage and eat anything which is foolish enough to carve easily into chops and steaks.

They've actually had a serious of studies from real acedics which have shown the no carb (read all meat) diet actually works and doesn't harm your health if you follow it for up to one year.

Longer then a year hasn't been studied yet.

Well you'll have to give me proof on that Oerdin cos that sounds pretty unbelievable... I'm sceptical on it! From what I've learned in Biology class that's impossible.

Many people regard vegetarians as people who eat salads all day, or don't enjoy eating, but that's not true... There are many delicious meals and recepies without meat, and it doesn't even have to be something complicated etc...

Italian food is very good imo (and I don't mean I only eat spaghetti etc)

A bonus is, when you go to a restaurant, the vegetarian options are always the cheapest
Of course, I don't know whether vegetarian plates are an option in other countries or not so...

In Finland, that's not the case in restaurant's. 'Vegetarian' dishes tend to be over-priced jokes for people who're trying to be 'hip'. However, if you'll do your food for yourself (like I do), you'll notice the huge difference in price.

I was sceptical too and I would never go on a all anything diet because I like verity to much. Still CNN & MSNBC ran segments on the Atkin's diet being showed to be safe; this diet fad is currently the #1 selling book in the U.S. (sad I know). Any way the doctor I saw on CNN said she was extremely surprised because she thought that not following the food pyraimid would harm people's health. The study showed no increases in Cholesterol at the end of 6 months and a greater loss in body fat compared to the traditional counting calories method of dieting.

Of course most of the people who loss weight on this diet gain it back once they start eatting other things besides meat again but I guess that's life.

It can sometimes be near impossible to get vegetarian food in restaurants here. Alot of restaurants will even ruin an otherwise perfectly good vegetarian dish with something like chicken stalk. And some don't even tell you.


But thankfully, there is an Idian restaurant just a short ways from me that does great vegetarian curries.

Well, that's why it is a life diet. You're not supposed to "go off" it entirely. The book says you have to find your Critical Level for Weight Loss and your maintainence level (ie how many carbs you can eat and stay at the same weight). This could be very high in some people but low in others.

People who go "off the diet" eventually and back to the old habits that got them fat in the first place can expect to be back up and over their previous weight.

I'm shooting for about 180, and I intend to stay there once I get there. I've been fat all my life and I want to breath the free air.

The Atkins diet, from what I've heard, is quite effective for many people, but it is not a long term plan because people on it have a significantly higher rate for heart disease, heart attacks, stroke, etc. because of the high level of cholesterol and fat that is usually consumed.

Of course, if you are seriously overweight it is quite possible that the health benefits of returning to a normal weight far outweigh (no pun intended) the health problems caused.

I eat mostly natural and organic meats. I recently found out I have allergies to gluten (wheat, flour, pasta, cookies, etc.) & dairy (milk products) so if I had to cut out meat too I'd really be in trouble.

I thinks its messed up the way animals are treated in today's factory farms, I almost never order meat at restaurants (especially fast foods).

I can't imagine a meat-free diet. From what I've read (and I've read a lot) an ominivours diet is the one best suited to humans. If it weren't for meat humans never would have been able to evolve and spread northward during the ice ages. No one can argue that our intestines are not significantly different from monkeys (who are primarily vegatarian).

My favorite meat is beef liver! Its delicious and inexpensive!
