I would be interested in participating. I like the idea of keeping it small, themed, and fun.

I do not think GS as a whole would play, given various time constraints, and, if so, I would like to spread the love with MZ. We will warmonger with flowers and smiley faces.

As to your comments about GS, Togas... well, you just don;t get it. For example, as one of the founders of AU, I would say that our whole orientation is about learning and sharing, and keeping the tone and culture of the Civ3 community in 'poly a highly positive experience. If you can't distinguish trash talking from that, you need to step away from your computer for a little while.

I'm not much of a roleplaying type, and I already feel like the game we've got going is pretty intense (well, bursts of activity and periods of restless waiting), so I'll pass on this one. Sounds like a good idea, though

In my mind, the primary reason for not wanting GS to sign up for this as a team is that they would definately win. If all of the other teams are themed teams, trying to live up to absurdist goals, a team of strategy aces actively trying to win would probably have a pretty easy ride of it. Now, if GS suddenly further developed their weather theme, and could only move their units in the direction of the prevailing winds on a given turn, now that'd be fun!

Makes sense, in that a team that was just playing to win vs. a bunch playing with goals/limitations that have nothing to do with winning isn't exactly a fair fight.

And since I am not the sort who wants such limitations, this isn't the game for me.

In the existing game, I would guess the prevailing winds to be primarily north to south...

I volunteer to set up the map/scenario, including any of the changes that participants will agree on (bananas are apparently a must). I'm not so good with art though...someone would have to help me with that. I have set up a few AU games, and know my way around the Editor.

I could also double as Historian.

I would like to be involved, but do not want to join (yet another) team, for time reasons. I feel guilty enough as it is not putting in as much effort into GS and ISDG as some other dedicated posters.

Before I get back to the issue at hand I'd better clear something up first:

I was wrong to disrespect an entire team for the actions and attidute of a few of its members. I would hate to see my RP team judged due to my actions or statements, and it was foolish of me to do the same to Gathering Storm.

Through conversations I've had with several people outside of GS, I've heard great personal praise about many of the people on the team, and through the posts in this thread it's clear to me that very many of the GS crowd are interested in sharing in a fun, less serious team game with the rest of the Poly Public. And that really makes me feel a lot better about things.

I think what sparked my indignation was the idea of a whole team separating itself socially from the rest of the Poly "community." That isn't the case, so I can rest my offense and get back to just focusing on the game at hand.

I'm very glad to see Team Sunshine picking up steam. I tossed out a few ideas to get the ball rolling and hoped that they would stimulate conversation and either be adopted or get other themes proposed. I hope that MasterZen takes the idea and runs with it, and I'll definately help keep it fun and funny.

Can people who are interested in this "side game" start proposing other theme ideas? Hopefully we can settle on the 5 best ideas sometime in the near future.

Heck, if we're getting silly we may as well go all the way. Open it up for mods and other twists ... maybe even use Kings and Victory Locations.

Oh, and Dominae as mapmaking/historian is a great idea. This new game seems to be coming along very well, indeed.

The new game should have some tighter turn control.

eg..you get 7 hours to sleep, and 5 hours to play only.

Penalties should be applied for any team who doesnt forward the game on before their time limit.

Penalties could be simple gold payments to all the other teams..Maybe 1g per hour per team in the ancient age.

Perhaps time can be a commodity ... a team who can process their games quickly, can build up hours that they can sell to other teams.

Any team that finds itself in a war can have an emergency 24 hour turn...but any extensions of time after than must be paid for by penalties to all teams..or by pruchasing time from other teams.

I have not put a lot of thought into this...just some general ideas. But it will force the game to move along at a good pace, and also force the teams to have multiple members that can play the game.

That's a pretty cool idea, Hot_Enamel. Some tweaking,,,and we got one of the rules for our game that makes it a bit 'different' than the other's. Sort of like those commercial's for "the other white meat."
