And they buy it. It's all PR and it is very easy to be PR with those sort of people I described. You win them in a sec. It's the "we need a friend" syndrome of some of the americans.

I don't think they like having the world against them so the slighest of compliment means the world to them.

Of course politics is far more complicated than that.

Schroeder got what he wanted without losing anything of substance and he's now just recapturing whatever unsubstantial he lost in the US public opinion.

War is still not justified. Schroeder apologized for calling Bush a moron and not for opposing war.

He also stated that he is glad that Saddam is no longer in power, but that does not mean he approves of US intervention.
