I am, like many people here, less leftist in economic issues. I mean, there's no future in the Soviet economic model, for instance (sorry, Tass... ). OTOH... I'm very leftist when the matter is about human rights, minorities, wars and welfare system. I have to be, I live in a "country under development"...

Aro, what do you mean, leftist on human rights? I am a righty and am very strong on human rights. I consider being pro-democracy and pro-human rights to be a rightist position. At least that's where we are in the US today.

I also care a great deal about human rights, contrary to what some may believe. And I am a righty too. And it is not always that leftists care about human rights.

Ned, you're more leftist than you think...
Seriously, it's really tough be a complete left wing or right wing nowadays. The world is very complicated...

Edit: typos, as always...

Fez,
Here in Brazil, the human rights has been exclusively a left wing concern. You know, we had a dictatorship till 20 years ago...
Anyway, I am more a humanist than any other thing. I believe in reason and intelligence to solve problems.
A little naive, isn't?

I associate liberals with people who like free-markets, and social freedom. If thats anything to go by.

Thatcher was too authoritarian to be considered iberal.

Oh, great. Now you got me into my Pia-Noora fantasy again... the one where she tells me I've been a leech to society and then spanks me with a will on a million-dollar inheritance where 900,000 goes to the rich man and 100,000 to the poor man.

Then Tanja Karpela comes in and they mud-wrestle. Whee!

really big crunch? I always ascosiated liberal w/ government intervention, universal health care, high taxes, welfare, etc...leading to socialism on the far left.

kinda odd to see it be polar opposite.

I am commonly associated with http://www.fnff.org on this forum.

We have had a dictatorship for more than 30 years from 1939-1975. The right wing is often associated with pro-Franco elements in the country which still exist.

I think capitalism and free market solves everything. And I always have thought this way. The freer the market the freer the people.

There are two systems:

Capitalism, or Coercion.

I do not believe in illogical universal health care, or dumb progressive taxation structures... or excessive welfare. None do good for any country.

The poor people are covered by the free market.

You cannot screw over the country for socialism or communism. Pardon my language.. but that is being blunt.

It just won't work.

But free markets left unrestricted eventually become monopolies as businesses eventually destroy the opposition.

The only way to keep markets free is by restricting big business.
