Hmm... my first Civ I games where I built zillions of units and sent them to tour the world without fortifying anything. I never built roads or irrigation or whatever.

I was afraid to declare a revolution since I didn't know what it meant and feared it would kick me outo f the game


In Civ II the first times I played it. When I was severely beaten by the Babilonians and never forgot that they cheated me out of cities.

My first Diety/ Emperor wins on Civ II.

Multiplayer LAN sessions in school or with friends: WarCraft II, Quake, etc.

TCP IP Age of Kings games with my friends. Those rocked.

Playing Baldur's Gate.

PLaying Red Alert.

Finishing Diablo with the use of cheats and a friend who guided me.

oh yeah, just remembered a 12 hour game of Civ2 MP. At the end me and another guy exchanging cities with howitzers and feeble attempts at rushing mech inf for some defense. A few nukes exchanged just for fun

1. Finishing FFIV, a cool cousin of mine in the attendance....that game was like so very very long back in 92/93 or so...

2.Countless hours of playing Super Mario Kart with my brother and a couple of former friends.

3.Getting one of the last cheats in Goldeneye. That game still survives against many of the "modern" FPS for sheer fun factor. Ditto for Mario Kart even....

4.Getting killed in freaky/stupid ways in Ultima VII. Repeatedly

my most intense gaming experiences were with netquake/quakeworld multiplayer. sometimes i'd play all night long on a school night. i think i spent all my energy back then and am still making up for it. my first lan to play quake was really a blast too, especially since we had a t1(my first time lpb). i could probably go on forever about quake stories or matches i've played. when i play quake i'm literally in another world - no other game does that to me.

honorable mentions - fallout, daggerfall, morrowind, snes ff3(?), and snes mariocart in 4 person battlemode were all great too.

Outside of its scope I could mention MoH:AA with the escape from Fort Schmerzen.

An evening of 8 player Micro Machines on the PS. It was hilarious. At one point a player had just won a point so we were all starting again but we all had the Hammers. Normally the players in front have the advantage - not this time as within Micro seconds of the restart the front row had been flattened by the second row who were then waiting for somebody else to move

Oh yeah, both Archon and Archon 2 are excellent games. Though there's one Archon game that is etched in my memory even after all this time. I played against the computer, and I was playing White. The computer sent the Dragon at a Knight of mine on a power point when it was completely black. I was like !@$& and got ready to be killed. I ran around wildly dodging fire breath and slashed around. Suddenly, the Dragon got stuck in a rock when it's changing colour, so I rushed up to it and stabbed it repeatedly. All of a sudden the Dragon died, just like that. I was so surprised that my Knight killed the Dragon I was in a completely dazed out mood the rest of the day.

Endless afternoons when I was younger playing MULE.

I had no understanding of the concept, and just wanted my character to have the most money... constantly got the "shortage of energy and food" messages at the starts of turns and never understood why.

Finally got a copy for the NES (played it on the C-64 originally) and enjoy now dominating it with my current schooling.

that main character of yours is a serious bloke.. I know what you're talking about and those fire giants kicked the living daylight out of my gang... of course, even though I worship the BG series, I'm not too good at it (I never seem to be able to penetrate an enemy mages defense spells)


Also gta1 multiplayer with friends was undescribable, the sheer fun... especially in a superbike vs army tank fight (where the superbike is so fast the tank can hardly hit him, and the tank is so tough you can't kill him )

Playing Pitstop II with my brother on the Commodore 64/128. It was great fun racing against each other; the tires changed colour when we bumped into things and if my colour was "higher" than his (more to go before the tire would explode) I'd chase him down... Ok, since he's not lurking these forums I'll admit that he got me a few times too... Lots of other games too on the C64, can't remember them all. The games were on tape and we had to load them with a tape recorder...

My first acquaintance with Civ 2: a friend and I had just written an exam in econometrics (for those of you who don't know what that is: run, run, and never look back! ). We were having a beer and he asked me if I would like to check out a computer game (yes, I'm aware how geeky this sounds... ). I hadn't played games for years and thought, sure, why not?

He fired up Civ 2, king level and we didn't leave our chairs for 14 hours straight... I didn't even play myself, just watched the events on the screen... Unbelievable, I was completely hooked... I didn't have a computer at the time (spring 1997), so for a while there he was my best mate... When he left for the summer holidays he left me the key to his appartment... I isolated myself for 2-3 weeks... Everything in the game absolutely mesmerized me... Never had that experience with another game...

Pacman... My brother and I got a yellow, handheld version one christmas in the early 1980s... Who'd believe that chasing dots and fruit could be so fun?

Hehe yeah it's pretty well known........and Ed Leamer is a funny guy.

Ok I'll contribute another gaming moment. Does anyone remember the Codemaster Dizzy series of games? They were huge on the Spectrum and similar level systems. Well I completed Dizzy 1 before all my mates, by solving the last set of fiendishly difficult (well to a 9 year old anyway ) puzzles first.
