I used to have C64 and this was a game from 1982 if I recall correctly.
It’s a pure strategy game. It features modern warfare in all aspects (bio-chemical and nuclear weapons included).
You get to command one of the two possible armies and every side has its own objectives.
So, you win if you can capture certain territory with one of the sides, or if you can defend it with the other side.
The timeframe of the game is 30 days.
Hostilities end after this time and victor is proclaimed.
There can also be a nuclear holocaust in which case nobody wins (or more precisely, you lose, for the computer can only lose if you win).

Has anyone of you played this game?
If my explanation is vague, I can post more clues.

Strategy games from that era are few and far between. The only wargame I can recall is Theatre Europe, which does loosely fit the description, but it was later than 1982 I am sure. For once I get to say the "you are too old" part.

The year was 1985.
I checked it just now.

Haven't played it since 1989. If I could only play it once again.

I even tried to programme a clone for PC later.
Didn't have much success so I decided to quit programming.

The game proved to be a turning point in my life. Showing me the right way: Leave programming to real programmers. I never regretted my decision.

And it does fit the description. Playing as NATO you were supposed to defend West Germany at all cost. Playing as Russians, you were supposed to drive the capitalist pigs into Atlantic Ocean.

Tbh it is so long ago I barely remember the game, but I didn't think I was right because I wasn't gaming in 1982, which was the original year you gave.

The only thing that really gave me a chance was the fact that that game is quite well-known (well, amongst people who know far too much about computer games ) for being one of the daddies of the genre.

And i guess thats the trick - if you go so far back there can only be a handfull of titles to choose from. So either its got to be so ealry and obscure(like only a dozen people played it!), or you got to go for about the late 80's early nineties when loads of stuff was being made.

Ok i'll come clean

If you were quick you would have seen i posted a clue in the guise of a sound file to download and play through mediaplayer etc.

BUT when i tried the link it just wouldn't work and infact opened up the website that would have given the game away!!!

So in my newbie attempt to do something different i royally stuffed up

Then i had to think of something to add that wouldn't give the game away! It was a poor cover-up and i apologise for the hasty replacement clue.

I'll try again cause you cant edit a post and add any attachments......but hopefully this time

If not i may have to abort and do another bad clue

did you just open the zip and double click on the file? It automatically ran it on media player for me? Damn!!

In fact i didn't even have to save the file onto my pc i just 'opened' at the download promt and then opened winzip and double clicked the .wav file??

ok if this isn't going to work i'll think of something else.......bare with me please

and all i wanted to do was something a little different!

Hmm, it opens in WMP but not in Winamp, which is my default for .wavs. Probably my winamp is out of date.
