We might even send a reporter to Kursk next month, this month our reporter is headed to the newly liberated city of Minsk.

I took the basic plan posted above by FiGu as the currently agreed upon plan (I think) and overlayed a variant of the plan that includes the eventual capture of Kiev The red and black are FiGu's plan, the blue plan is mine. The 2nd Ukranian Front doesn't change it's plan, it is the 1st Ukranian that gets altered.
Instead of using the tanks sitting in Kursk to seize Belgorod, Kharkov and Poltava, we send most of them west through Gomel towards Kiev, on leaving behind enough tanks to secure Belgorod. The army that takes Kharkov and Poltava will come from Voronezh and Serafmovich.
I think that although my plan is somewhat riskier, it will get us into Kiev sooner than if we have to go through Kharkov and poltava first.
The problem with the both plans is the destroyed roads in the Ukraine, it's going to slow us down, I've marked the the map with yellow dots where we would have to build new roads to speed up the plan. Now the dot between Gomel and Kursk we can ignore, it won't leave our troops in German sights if we slow down there. The trick is near Kiev where the roads are terrible.
Possible timeline for the advances:
September
Belgorod attack (move units from Serafmovich and Voronezh forward for attack on Kharkov)
October
Attack Kharkov
Begin attack on Kherson and Zaporozhye
November
Winter arrives!
Finish off Kharkov
Advance on Stalino and Voroshilovgrad
Continue against Kherson and Zaporozhye
Begin advance on Kiev from Gomel
I don't dare go farther than that in setting a possible timeline, something may wrong, distances are too great or we run into a unexpected pocket of severe German resistance.
I'm looking forward to seeing my commanders laugh at my plan and telling me I'm crazy

The next question is, what is needed in addition to your own forces to pull this off?

Note: divisions newly equiped with T-34/85s are still getting used to their new tanks and can't be considered "Veterains" anymore. Suggest you bloody them against soft targets in the open before taking on more difficult enemies.

Captured Poltava against a token defense. No casualties(for us :P). Preparing for the offense against Kiev...

quote:
Your former Commander, Shemir Naldayev has been sent to the read for training our new recruits. He has been placed at a tank school at Chelyabinsk just in time for the new troops first exams.
I am now your commander and I expect you to fight like banshees when in combat with the fascists. We here at the 1st Ukrainian are on the verge of a majour assault on very key enemy 'fortress' cities. Once we form up, we must strike deep into the enemy lines we will take Vienna and Prague. Lovely prises for the terror our brave nation has faced. We shall show the enemy no quarter in the months to come, and I need to you to fight with tenacity that you've heretofor never known you had. I wish you luck, and for the Glory of the Motherland, We Shall Advance!

This month the 1st Ukrainian took the city of Kirovgrad. There we destroyed 2 Romanian divisions and 2 divisions of Wermacht. We occupied the airbase at (39,117) and will be sending planes there to support the 2nd Ukr, come springtime. We also intend to hand Kirovgrad over to the 2nd when they are ready to take command.
Preparations are underway to move on Bruno by way of Kracow. From there it is a equal distance to both Vienna and Prague. Kosice will be bypassed for now, as it is a fortress located in very mountainous terrain (city on mtn, the Horse would be pissed). It poses no threat to the intended assault.
This month, upon taking command, I was informed by the Marshal to prepare for a supposed counterattack in the Kursk sector come this summer. Apparently Sorge has been at it again, btu I find it hard to believe. Kusrsk is hundreds of km away from the front, how do they figure they tanks will get there? Either way, Our is not to wonder why...
I have no immediate requests for rushbuilding, Check the Kursh area for AT guns, they're cheap if you Marshal types are lookign for something fun to build.
It will be some time before my forces are poised to strike. They are spread all across the Ukraine on their way to the assebly points...

Here is a shot of the capture of Kirovgrad AFB by Cossaks of the 1st Ukr. Note divisional emblem displayed...
