You don't actually have to be able to run the game to play in the democracy game, though it helps so you can have first-hand knowledge of the save file while making policy decisions... I don't have SMACX set up on my computer at the moment, but I'm still involved.

You can pretty much join whenever you want, just give some thought to your choice of faction, as defections are a big no-no.

A major default at the moment is the absence of a central /general thread. THere are two views:

1 We can't interact until we meet in the game.
2 We can interact as long as we don't talk about the current game.

RE 2: Going by past pbem experience that could be in the late twenties for some factions and maybe later for others.

So do we wait until everyone can have ambassadors with everyone else or what.

To me that is nonsense. As Maniac (it was you wasn't it) suggested, perhaps we should have a communal 'free radio' type thread.

If so, as the Creator/defender of the AI, I'd suggest no tech or ec's switching hands until formally meeting in-game

Otherwise the AI, which will be overwhelmed soon enough by human players, will be even more at a disadvantage (and they were positioned in the game somewhat strategically vis-a-vis contacts and had their preferences/agendas tweaked to maxinize on their likely opportunities)

Googlie: you may need to elaborate on the AI bit. In the forums we wouldn't normally expect the AI to engage in discussions.

I had assumed that you were suggesting - absent the Empath Guild - that the "no trading before in-game contact" protocol be dumped. That would seriously have disadvantaged Miriam and Roze (well maybe not so much Roze, as her 'infiltration techshare' might kick in earlier after she's probed enough)

If it's as inoccuous as you subsequently suggest, then there's no problem

Interaction between teams before commlink freq. is a bit unrealistic IMO, but it can be fun anyway. Diplomatic agreements before commlink freq. is very unrealistic and I hope we can avoid it, but we can make a "free emergency freq. " or something, just for fun?

I think we have a small problem: Nivoxz N. has managed to join 3 forums (UoP, Hive and CyCon). This could lead to all sorts of problems. What should we do? A simple mistake or a DL?
