Magneto was still self-identifying as a Jew at that time, and since his powers came of age, he refused to let the Holocaust happen again.
The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants came later. |
I think Magneto was originally identified as a Eastern European Slav, then as an Eastern European Jew. Comic heroes/villains weren't identified as Jews until the late 70s/early 80s, Kitty Pryde being the first I remember seeing.

Just saw it
Great stuff. Nightcrawler was amazing, and very interesting too, to have such a religious character in the movie (generally these kind of movies shy away from that stuff). The best part with him is when Rogue fell out of the plane. I was about to thinking Wolverine would just jump out and grab her or something with a rope tied to his waist (The whole Wolvie is all-powerful idiotic story idea), but then the teleporting of Nightcrawler was awesome.
And then Wolvie was shown to not be all-powerful, because, let's face it, Lady Deathstrike kicked his ass until the deus ex machina end to that fight.
Magneto was REALLY shown to be immensly powerful. Fixing and stopping the crashing X-Plane, breaking out of prision, and just generally being just about all powerful (which he basically is).
Xavier was shown as the wuss (even though he almost killed everyone), so as these movies seem to be going (the wussy characters become the strong ones in the sequal - Jean Grey, Magneto), Xavier is really going to show his powers greatly in X3, IMO.

titanium isn't magnetic at all. the only three metals that are magnetic are nickel, iron, and cobalt. |
And gadolinium. </nerd>
