You clever bastards. Hope someone hooks you up with the track. Just remember that you're robbing Rob Thomas blind while you're downloading it.

20 million albums, he's not hurting.

My concert tickets more than make up for it, doncha know.

I've bought tracks of his online too (WMA-protected), but I'm not getting iTunes to get it.

Rob wants you to use iTunes, Asher. That's why he gave Apple an exclusive track, doncha know. A real fan would do what Rob Thomas wants, eh?

You should get iTunes just to explore the store. I've been previewing songs for hours now and have yet to get tired of it. It's a lot of fun.

Why would I use iTunes at all?

There are other online music stores, and if I buy music, I want it on a damned CD...

What if you only want one or two songs on a CD? Do you steal from the artist or pay an outrageous amount for the whole CD? It seems like Apple's offering a good middle ground with iTunes.

Steal from them and pay outrageous amounts of money to see them live when they come to town (so they actually get money).

That doesn't help us folks that live in places where big concerts don't come.

BTW, I'm shocked at how many Hall & Oates songs I know.

"You clever bastards."
It's not really that clever - they're basically just rerecording the song. Any clutz could do it - it's just a pain in the butt.

I downloaded a full cd for four dollars tonight. I'm happy with it.

They're huge here, their last concert sold out 18,000 seats at the Saddledome in half an hour...

The top two radio stations for the town (CJay92, ThePeak 107) use MB20 on their posters and TV ads.

Well the itunes music store sold over a million songs in its first week of operation.

Might sink Bill's ambitions to get all the music companies to use WMA9. Apparently they aren't too keen on handing over their keys to him.

Companies have been selling protected WMA files for over a year already...

I bought two so far.

Plus, lots of hardware companies have signed on for Windows Media DVD players. And Creative supports WMA instead of AAC for their mobile audio products...

I think it would be really dumb for music companies to tie their product into anything other than an open standard.

But it's their funeral.

WMA is cheaper than Dolby's AAC encoding licensing fees (how is this open, btw) and Faunhaufer's MP3 licensing fees.

I'm still really confused about how you equate AAC to being an open standard, when last I checked it was a proprietary Dolby standard.

Well it's open in the sense that no monpolistic OS manufacturer owns it, which is really all that matters.

As a company I'd be more concerned with the cost, quality, and feature set than who owns it.

It's not like Dolby has a monopoly on DVD audio, right? It's not like Dolby is desperately trying to get the DVD-Audio stamp, right?
