She stands first on the East-Flemish list of the Socialist Party, but I don't know yet if I'll vote for her, as she has made a few anti-intellectual statements.

Aren't you Dutch instead of Belgian?
you did post some flattering pictures of our dear politicans you know I will surely not vote for "someone". It will be a 100% party vote, though I'm still not sure... I reckon it will be an Agalev party vote (greens), and I certainly won't want to vote for any agalev politician... dear god never!!!

Btw Lord of the Mark: "We don't think that weakening the Palestinian Authority or Chairman Arafat can help advance the peace process in any way."

If that is his opinion... why not...
Okay perhaps weakening Palestinian authority might help the peace process, but how about weakening Israeli authority . That might help as well!

About the veto and the NATO help to Turkey.. I fully agree with Belgium's stance on this and it doesn't do anything about the fact that Louis Michel is actually pro-war... his only problem (he says) with the Americans is the bad communication of the US about this war, or whatever

Thanks for the quotes, LotM, I remember Louis Michel now. Contrary to most European politicians, he's got balls When it comes to politics, I usually make fun of Belgium and am glad I'm Dutch, but in the past year or so (especially in the ME crisis - both Israel and Iraq) I feel ashamed to be Dutch and look up to the Belgians... That's partially because the f*ck-ups of Dutch politicians, but also for a large part because of the likes of Michel. He would make a fine prime minister indeed

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

funny, I also make fun of the Dutch and am glad I'm Belgian

But politicians are arseholes everywhere including my corrupt little country, okay maybe you guys are a bit unlucky with the fags that have won last elections, but still...

I wouldn't vote for Michel (I can't anyway I'm Flemish ) because he's an incredible opportunist... In his most recent interview in "the Standaard" he tried sucking up to the US again, in order to collect some votes from the right wing, and I don't believe a thing he said there, as he has proven to contradict these words

Its not that he opposed weakening the PA - its that he opposed weakening Arafat - that there is hope for the peace process now is entirely due to the weakening of Arafat, and the hope that Abu Mazen will be a better leader. Arafat opposed peace - to support him as Michel did was - effectively - support for terror.

Im sorry you feel that way - I beleive the Dutch approach to the mideast has been much fairer and more just than the Belgian. Perhaps it would be helpful if i could share more details of the Oslo peace process, the camp david 2 and Taba negotiations, and the second intifada with you?
