I don't really care much for any of the "U Drive It!" stuff, but I am excited about:
-labels and street-names
-new buildings
-new style sets (European, 1890s Chicago, etc.)
As long as the "U Drive It!" stuff is optional, and the UFO stuff can be turned off, I'll buy it.

Slightly off-topic (but this being the only SimCity4 thread going currently), "the7trumpets" over at Simtropolis just announced that, through his/her efforts and those of other modders, they may have found a way to force the traffic simulator to use the shortest TIME distance instead of the shortest PHYSICAL distance.
Example: Sim Joe lives at House Manor and works at McJob. He can take either a Road, a Street, or a Highway on his commute. The road has the lowest tile distance, the highway the longest. As the traffic simulator currently stands, Joe will pretty much always choose the road, even though it will take him longer to complete a round-trip on the road, as opposed less time on a street and even less time on a highway. "the7trumpets" et al may have found the way to rectify this most irritating aspect of the game (besides the rendering performance).
What "the7trumpets" needs are cities that are mainly NON-GRID based and are mostly self-sustaining (Sims aren't commuting to other cities for work). They need to test the mod under actual gameplay before they can release it to the community in general. Head over to www.simtropolis.com, go into the Forums, enter the General Discussion forum, and find the thread titled "Pathfinding Fixed!!! -test cities needed" started by "the7trumpets."
Man, I hope they've succeeded in cracking this part of the code. (No, not cracking as in warez, cracking as in modding.) This fix has been needed for months now; hopefully it can be replicated once the expansion pack is out, if it isn't already included in expansion's coding.
EDIT: Made details for requested test-cities more clear.
