What's the freaking deal with all sorts of hazings in the US?

I've heard about it going on in all sorts of sororities alot and stuff (i think i'll start a thread on explaining sorrorities to siro), and I can't get how does the school / college / uni do nothing?

Doesn't surprise me really.. but it went too far I guess.
So one got a broken ancle? And others were hospitalized as well? Something is very wrong there.. people getting injured.
What's wrong with rituals I had to go through in hockey when getting to play in certain level, the rest of the team shaved my pubic hairs by force. That was fun. When it was our turn to shave up some lads, they did a trick on us, they had all shaved themselves the day before! But we got them back.. as soon as they grew them back.. Oh yeah!

About shaving part? I'm not. It's common practice in hockey at certain age. Also if you change to another team, it could very well be you'll get shaved .

The main thing is to shave the hair, but it usually extends to pubic hair as well.

well I have no problem with the disgusting liquids/solids. That's standard hazing stuff. The navy had hazing rituals like this for crossing the equator. I never got to cross the equator though . I blame Bill Clinton . Damn cost cutting the military. It was too expensive to keep air craft carriers out longer than they needed to be.

But I admit the hitting kind of shocked me. Now I realize women can get as violent as men. But often that is in the heat of passion and spontaneous. Or it is a pent up built up aggression towards another woman that the girl sees as a threat to her potential pool of mates (men).

But to see women hitting other women for no good reason seemed strange to me.

Ive heard about crossing the equator from a few friends that were in the navy. sounds delightful

I agree that its the violence that really pissed me off and it wasnt just because they were female. it was because most these people are 17/18 and they should know better than to attack other students like that. The idea in their minds that this is acceptable behavior is disgusting to me and it made me really angry. I just cant fathom doing something like this.

Its like that book "The Lottery" What kind of society supports the random violence against one person or group of people and has no second thoughts about it. Its distrubing.
