If Bush wins the Nobel Peace prize I would be amazed! This would almost be as bold as giving it to Winston Churchill.

The list of Peace prize winners reads like an appeasers Hall of Fame. Jimmy Carter? Why not Neville Chamberlain!

OSLO (Reuters) - A Norwegian parliamentarian nominated President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair for the Nobel Peace Prize on Thursday, praising them for winning the war in Iraq.

Not a fat chance. Jimmy Carter got the Peace Prize last year and Annan got it the year before. If you couldn't see a trend, I can't help you.

Urban Ranger, the point I made is simply: The prize exists to award appeasement. TThis has been quite obvious by looking at who got the award over the years. I am surprised that Chamberlain never got the award. Perhaps the Nobel committee knew it would be a little awkward after Hitler swallowed the rest of Czechoslovakia.

UR, I am sure you get it. But, just in case you do not, the real man of peace was Churchill, not Chamberlain. But the Nobel Prize will always go to the likes of Chamberlain.

Yes, I got it. You were trying to compare GWB and Tony Blair with Churchill. The problem is they have no parallels (almost), with the exception that both Blair and Churchill are/were UK prime ministers.

Well, the case for Bush or Blair will be a lot better if they find WMD, or find out that Saddam destroyed them just before the war started. However, I will not be surprised, will you, if the award this year goes jointly to Villepin and the Pope.

I think I ought to win it. Hell, I've never invaded anyone and I'd happily sign peace accords if only someone gave me a chance to.

Can one of our Norwegian posters get in touch with their MP and recommend me for the Nobel Peace Prize?

Ned: To put it quite simply, saying that the Nobel Peace Prize is for "appeasers" shows that it is not I whom am "of the most evil of the world", but you. For the support of murder is by far one of the worst crimes anyone can commit.

Too bad, cause I didn't want to be dethroned

But remember ned: If "appeasers" didn't exist.........the human race wouldn't exist, either

So let's see Tass, Saddam is now out of power and is no longer murdering and torturing an average of 100,000 people year. The war cost a little over 100 American and several hundred Iraqi civilians their lives.

Now, the Nobel prize committee is assessing to whom to give the Nobel peace prize: those who oppose the war or those who prosecuted the war and rescued the Iraqi people.

What I am saying is that the Nobel peace prize will go to those who opposed the war and not to those who liberated Iraqi people. It will go to those who would have continued the suffering of the Iraqi people, not those who ended it.

It's not over yet. Basra is still in deep crap. There's no central government in Iraq - civil war could break out any minute. There's massive damage to infrastructure and do not forget all the looting and pillaging that was not stopped by US forces. Lots of things can happen as a consequence of the invasion. Until Iraq gets a stable central govenment, this thing isn't over.

Yeah, cos it's the "peace" prize, not the "prevent suffering" prize. Just because it's illogical doesn't mean you can give the Peace Prize to the guys who started a war.

There is no way a self-respecting socialist would ever vote for a rightist. That's why Republicans never win Nobel Prizes; there are to many socialists in Sweden.
