Yes, but why should it be inherited in the first place, as opposed to, say, acting like a monastic order, or a charitable organisation? What is it about being "God's PR men" that requires an inheritence component at all?

The idea that being God's PR men is inherited also gives tacit support to other notions of birthright, such as monarchy and aristocracy. "They're God's PR men, as decided by birth, and I'm God's leader, as decided by birth."

Well, it welcomes them, but Jewish religious officials try to dissuaded not to convert to Judaism (in order to ensure that those who do convert are serious about it, and that there's no necessity for a non-Jew to convert to Judaism to recieve some reward, like the afterlife.).

You said inherit-I didnt..... We dont "inherit" some divine mandate every generation, it is just taught to the children.

You say inherit, thus giving the conotation that it is something physical, and something you would want-while it has no tangible "value", and isnt something most people do want. Do you want to be restricted from eating 90% of the world's food, or laying low for a day and a half a week, for the rest of your life?

So because it is "inherited" it is something bad-but you said inherit, thus giving it a bad conotation..... not I. It isnt inheritance, parents teach it to their children and hope the children embrace it.

I always assumed that after generations of struggle to separate Gentiles from their money, that Jewish thought on intermarriage was simply "why should we bring them into the family and share?"

i would only point out that vesayens views, while generally consistent with Judaism, represent only one view. In addition to the well-known modern movement (orthodox, conservative and reform) there have been disagreements on many matters throughout jewish history - just as one example, there are certainly many Jews who do believe in afterlife.

Just curious, where do you draw your information from the afterlife?

The Torah has less then a handfull of passing references, and everything in the Talmud could be entirley false-since it was written by man(not saying its all false, but how do we know?)
