When did you try Windowblinds? Of course, I have no idea what you want your desktop to look like, so I can't say for sure.

AFAIK, XP isn't even a full release in the NT/2K line. The next one is called "Longhorn," I believe, which is going to be even worse than XP.

So long ago I canīt even remember exactly

But as said, I can of course live without such graphic stuff. If XP has no real major advantages, I donīt need it. But then I also wouldnīt install another desktop tool just for some cool gfx. I just thought XP gives me both - better gfx, and some real improvements. Since that doesnīt seem to be the case, my 2k will be enough for now...

I am very pleased by XP professional since I have changed the goofy graphics and got rid of most of the 'user-friendly' features (more accurately called 'dumb-friendly' features)
The system is stable, and is rather convenient as it allows you to restore your old habits pretty easily.
I feel much better with XP pro, since it seems XP home don't allow you to do what you please with your comp, but XP pro seems to, at least in my experience.
However, be aware that you will send personal info about your computer to MS permanently with any WinXP, and it will be worse with any future system from MS. If you are jealous of your privacy, you should consider keeping your old system.

NT looks distinctly different. It's even more bland, which suits the business world just fine.

Of course, I am not saying all businesses abhor colourful interfaces. Maybe it goes well over with design firms, if most of them aren't sticking with Macs.

Don't use it. You'll become impotent and women will avoid you. You will develop a terrible rash and a porn addiction. And you'll become completely irrational and cross-eyed from looking at the badly designed interface.

Add to that that it will secretly tell MS about all the porn you've watched and then they'll blackmail you.

But hey, if you want to trust your computing to loons like this:

http://www.jasoco.com/lookhere/movies/ballmermonkey.mpg

it's your funeral.

Ballmer.

If Steve Jobs acted like Ballmer does, rather than being rather flamboyant and blatantly mispronouncing things like Jaguar, I'd buy a Mac.

XP does look toyish when unchanged. A friend of mine calls it "Windows Autist" for a reason. But you can easily change it so that XP looks like a real System. Mine does.

Evidently it's not too difficult to get people to take me seriously, because I made a joke and not one, but two posters took it seriously.

Ballmer is awesome because he's so ridiculous, there's a ton of videos of him giving pep-rallies that crack me up every time. Plus all of the quotes he has about their competitors, classic stuff.

He's up there with the Iraqi Information Minister for God-status.

Call me an old fuddy duddy, but I found his monkey dance to be embarassing. I'd have hated to be there and ashamed to work for MS. You can't go jumping around like that when you look like a fat version of Charles from MASH.

No - the Iraqui information minister didn't spit on all the people he talked to.

Anyway, I liked this:

Why am I not surprised you liked that?
It's only the same tired jokes we've been hearing for over a decade. It's even better because the only people who still make them are Mac or *nix users who don't have a clue just how stable Windows is today.

I really like how Steve Jobs has a brainfart and pauses for 10 seconds, then says something completely dumb and nonsensical when you look at all of MS' patents and innovations compared to Apple.

The difference is, the Apple Marketing Machine has succeeded into moulding the minds of all their fanatical users into thinking Apple is the one innovating ("the only company to ship hockey-puck mice!!!!", "the only company with the proprietary monitor connections so you get ****ED!!", "the only company with the insanely overpriced hardware that does less!!!") whereas in reality, Apple rips off most of their stuff from other people.

Hell, even iTunes (Apple's finest achievement IMO) was someone else's product repackaged.

Serious question, Agathon, have you ever not used strawmen arguments in debates? If you have, you certainly don't demonstrate that on Apolyton.
